3RD LINE Gear: “DUELING” SLING BAGS!!!

O.K.

I have a problem…ask my wife…

I am a terrible “gear-do” when it comes to “stuff” to put “stuff” in.

Pouches, bags, cases…whatever; if its nylon and in the form of a bag or pouch, I probably have it, owned it, or considered getting it at one time or another.

So, when I saw these two sling bags, it was natural to for me to place an order and obtain them out of pure needless, compulsive behavior. ..

Did I need yet another couple of bags lying around the house? NO, but it didn’t stop me from buying either of these and, somehow, I feel I am better off for it in the end.

So bear with me as I share a couple of my favorite sling bag picks…

Here they are…

WHY THE SLING BAG?

I decided to try out a sling bag for a change up for carrying my daily gear. I have been employing a battle lab SOF pack for humping around most of my daily gear needs , but found myself fishing around for gear in all the wasted space. It was just way too much space (2800+ CU.IN.) for my needs so I figured I would down size and try out a sling bag (or two).

Well, I could not decide on which sling bag to purchase so I purchased them both <OF COURSE> and outfitted both of them with pouches I had lying around the house.
Both sling bags were set up with MOLLE attachment points so I stuck a pouch everywhere there was a spot to do so; less out of need and more out of curiosity. The SAT-COM bag is a bit smaller than it’s S.O.TECH Go bag competitor, but had plenty MOLLE real estate to go crazy on to make up for it, so I did.

THE PRICE

Here’s the rub – In price comparison alone, the basic SAT-COM BAG ($26.50) smokes the S.O. TECH Go bag ($106.95). If you have plenty of pouches to outfit either bag, it’s very obvious which bag is a steal for the money. When you start adding pouches the price comparisons close to within $10.00 of each other…

BOTTOMLINE OPINION

If you need a streamlined bag, either of these two sling bags would be a good choice. Both bags, packed, stow effortlessly in my vehicle and would pack in an airline overhead compartment easily too.

The drawback, big electronics are out. There’s no way a laptop is in even a consideration for a ride in either of these bags. They are obviously way too trim, but for survival essentials, extra clothing, and other similar-sized or packable items, it’s a definite option.

I have taken both bags on local hikes and while they did not ride as secure as a standard pack, they were easy to come on and off, and didn’t shift around as much as I anticipated when on my back, packed.

So the DUEL in the end is over cost and fabric. The quality of both bags is acceptable, but the construction and fabric weight of the S.O.TECH BAG is more robust. On the other hand,  try and beat the SAT-COM bag’s basic price- $26.50!!!

Either would be a fine purchase if you had the need for a sling bag…
