It's hard to know what is really going on and as with many things the media and the UN have credibility problems. These articles are worth reading at some point. Gary Null pointed it out what some experts were saying and I was able to locate these sources. I will perhaps read them in detail later as I only skimmed them thus far

This evidence fiasco creates tremendous uncertainty about the risk of dying from Covid-19. Reported case fatality rates, like the official 3.4% rate from the World Health Organization, cause horror — and are meaningless. Patients who have been tested for SARS-CoV-2 are disproportionately those with severe symptoms and bad outcomes. As most health systems have limited testing capacity, selection bias may even worsen in the near future.

an online publication based at the University of Oxford, announced on Tuesday that it had stopped relying on World Health Organization (WHO) data for its models, citing errors and other factors.

..

A Stanford University epidemiologist and professor of medicine, in a widely circulated Stat article, recently said the COVID-19 pandemic could end up being a “a once-in-a-century evidence fiasco.”

Why would I believe WHO numbers? They accept the numbers from China, who already got caught lying about this. But then the head of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom, is a member of Ethiopia's Tigray People's Liberation Front, which is Ethiopia's Marxist/Leninist wing.

If the villain of this story is China's communist party and the guy who is globally tasked to fight the spread is also a communist things look awry.

Top it off with the fact that the WHO is a UN organization and it gets cloudier. Once again using politics to cure illness and that doesn't work.

I have little faith.
