No, I don't worry about someone recording my meeting, but someone selling my personal ID to identity thieves does worry me. I don't have a lot in my bank, but I would like to keep what is there, and identity theft is a very hard crime from which to recover.

Although, now that you mention it - I really do not want to have someone massage my speech to show that "conservative christian == bad."  ;D

If zoom can access your web cam and microphone the how can they steal your identity ?

Yep, not surprised. I had heard that China passed a law mandating that ALL Chinese citizens MUST spy for the country, whenever they get the opportunity. In other words, if China says that a citizen had an opportunity to spy, and the citizen did not, then that person can be tried for treason.

I would like a source on this one... I believe it to be true, but that means nothing.

I saw it on television news (I don't remember whether it was national, or local,) but here are some articles about the law:

This may be where I heard of the law, but I am not positive: https://www.foxnews.com/us/china-spying-us-soil-coronavirus-narrative

https://www.lawfareblog.com/beijings-new-national-intelligence-law-defense-offense

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-security-lawmaking/china-passes-tough-new-intelligence-law-idUSKBN19I1FW

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/03/05/huawei-would-have-to-give-data-to-china-government-if-asked-experts.html

The text of the law (in English - a PDF file): https://cs.brown.edu/courses/csci1800/sources/2017_PRC_NationalIntelligenceLaw.pdf

And, here is an article on the Chinese law, as it regards our discussion on the poor security of Zoom: https://legalinsurrection.com/2020/04/uk-intel-tells-government-officials-not-to-use-zoom-citing-china-fears/

From my research (former CompTIA Security Plus certified professional, and nearly thirty years of managing servers and networks) Skype (much as I dislike Microsoft and their tactics) is the safest (although they have had a few troubles themselves.)

Check out the sub-article on DeepFake at: https://hackaday.com/2019/09/13/this-week-in-security-simjacker-microsoft-updates-apple-vs-google-audio-deepfakes-and-netcat/#more-375990

But, that is not what concerns me - it is the info that sites/apps require, such as birth date, etc. that when combined with several such sites, give a more in-depth picture of the user than I like. When sites share (give or sell) user data, that makes them both more dangerous than is comfortable.

Stopped at the local sporting goods store for a few items.  The had signs up "There are NO trampolines in stock, and will be none until May"

interesting thing to run out of...

From what I have been reading, the next version of Zoom (5.0) will be a bit more secure.
It should have features like encryption.  However, I am not sure if that encryption will be end-to-end.

FYI:  The early reports on current version of zoom says it has encryption, but what is there is weak at best.

Work has said - nope - you can't use zoom for business meetings (sort of).  However, our stance might change for version 5 of zoom.

Right now I am dusting off some fun projects...building some kits that have been hiding in the basement for years.
