I apologize for the shoddy cellphone pictures, but it's all Ive got for now.   

I picked this up for 1100 bucks, and it's going to be my homestead tractor.   Hopefully I will be able to score some impliments for the right price, or weld up some of my own.   (plow, disc, bush hog, rake, boxblade, and maybe even a front end loader)

I bought it under the promise with a handshake that it ran great, though not currently running.   I'm hesitant to trust anyone that is selling me something, but this guy turned out to be legit.

The first thing I did after I bought it was to toss a battery in, clean the points, and put in some fuel.    It fired up, and ran but would not idle well, and ran poorly... a Carb "rebuild" (take apart, and clean) fixed it, and now it runs absolutely perfect.    No knocks, No smoke, No noises.   

I just have to get these parts installed this weekend, and i'll be bush hogging soon!!!   

I need to make a post asking about terracing my hilly land.

It's amazing how them old engines just run and run and run and run.
You can take them apart with a half dozen tools - one of which is usually a short piece of pipe.

The other thing I get a kick out of, is that they rust differently. They just get this nice, orange, patina to them, and stop rusting unless you do something stupid like plant them in the ground. I wish my new vehicle would rust the same way - not this nasty spreading cancers that eat right through the body!

I have a Massey Ferguson 50 with a bucket. It is a good little tractor and a huge labor saver around the place. I have actually paid for it with side work mowing lots, light dirt work, pushing snow etc......

A neat option for those who can't afford, don't need or can't store a tractor is one of these- I have one with several attachments and they work quite well-

I grew up with a massey and it fired every year and probably still is.  That goes to prove you can make an engine that doenst fail at 150,000 miles.  Love the post.

One nice thing about gasoline tractors is that with the proper muffler they are alot quiter than a comparable desiel.

Love old tractors, those things'll run on nothing but bailing wire if they need to.   Well, duct tape too probably.

i have one question for you does it still have the 6 volt system in it or was it swaped out with a 12 volt system. and, hpefully you know about the posative ground on it. if not i would not leave it in the rain. but a nice find man.

It's 12 volt now.    has a 12 v solenoid on it.   Just installed all new gauges today.   Working on getting a U-joint for my bush hog, and then its time to do some clearing!!
