They are a little fussy I've noticed. We transplant from our cuttings.
2 years ago we put in several 35' rows in a unused/poor part of the garden.
Some are 4' and heading out. Others are barely hanging on, the cutting still there, with a few leaves that came up from the roots.
And probably lost around half of them.
Ours are all wild that are on the property. At least 2 different species I've noticed.

I'll keep trying... I'm sure eventually I'll figure it out. I may need to try a different spot and do something to assure more regular water and do some soil amendment.

I've harvested most of the onions and they are drying now in the garage... also picked two of the butternut squash... several more still on the vines. The carrots are doing well, so I pulled about 1/3 of them so far.

Lots of tomatoes and squash every day

Decided to harvest potatoes, as we've let the field to grow a lot of weeds that pretty much killed the potatoe plants, anyway. 3 lines of potatoes, each about 10-12m, provided one wheelbarrow of potatoes. Could be better, could be worse I guess. Potatoes in our experimental hay-covered field are still in place.
Also harvested a big zucchini and a bunch of onions. Plus a handful of red currant from the new bush I planted earlier this year.

Couple gallon of green beans.
Blue lakes are finally kickin in.
Kentucky Wonder's have been producing well, but I think I still prefer the Blue Lake's, as the beans fill out round like.
The Kentucky Wonder's, most are staying flat with not much bean inside.
If you let them grow and fill out, then they are huge, and tough.

dehydrator's working on tomatoes... not quite enough for a canner, so dehydrating works well.

Still getting lots of summer squash and a fair number of tomatoes... also cutting herbs for drying.

Yesterday

Okra. Need to start pickling them. Way to many of them for using in stew now. All four rows have kicked in and are 5' tall.

Cantaloupe

One of Pride of Wisconsin, the ones we've saved seeds and grown for several years. Hard to get started, but produce well. Had that one for supper.

One Hearts of Gold, a new one for us. Not quite ripe but the stem was loosening. Have to pick a tad early here, as the raccoons will have them when they ripen.
Bigger melon than the other. Lots of melons on the vines.

Elderberry's, another full plastic sack full.

Walnuts. Started picking them up, as they've been falling for a couple of weeks now. Hulling doesn't begin until October the first.

I made pickled okra a long time ago. Wife didn't like it. Tasted just like commercial pickled okra which she likes.

I've made 5-6 different recipes. Liked all except for 1, which was way to vinegary.

Need to look up the Talk-O-Texas copy cat recipe again and try it. Theirs is about the best tasting for me.

Not sure but I think that is the one we buy occasionally and the one the okra I made tasted like. The mild version. I am still have the recipe, I'll look.

I'm from Milwaukee and live outside Minneapolis so I don't have a southern bone in my body but holy crap you have to pry me away from fried okra. My wife loves the food of the American south and thats one that stuck with me.

I'm awash in tomatoes. As in lousy with tomatoes and giving them away to friends. Also doing a little head scratching as the zucchini is starting to flower.

Not a good year for peppers, except the ancho's are going wild.
I have bell plants that are 6" tall and flowering, while the same species next to it is 18" tall and already produced a crappy looking bell.

Cantaloupes are trying to cover the whole 31 acres.

This is my best year for peppers. I usually get little peppers that I have to get early or they start going bad on the plant. This year I'm pulling peppers like you see in the supermarket off my plants.

Yep, grapes here. trying to decide what to do with them, glenora grapes. wild plums falling off the trees. Wild blackberries in peak production, but no time today to pick

ripe in garden are various summer squashs, chards, magenta spreen lambsquarters, green beans, the first couple tomatoes, and still just harvested some brocolli, I get some cucumbers but there are not enough to process, and wont be, just fresh eating not enough seeds germinated ( old seeds and seeds sold out everywhere last spring)

Last month staple crops harvested included 124 pounds of potatoes, garlic, and onions, over 100 onions, they did well new york early and newberg.

1.......one........as in 1......grape. Not a bunch, just 1 grape.

Been babysitting this one grape plant we bought and planted by the compost pile about 4 years ago.

Im realy tired and busy so made grape juice with that bunches of grapes. Used the steam juicer. I do not seem to get much juice with the steam juicer, but it is easy. 2 pints of grape juice water bath canned and 1 re-used bottle with the rubber seal, yes I found a place and bought 20 of the size 2 seals, so I will see how it does on the shelf. Seems like there is alot of life in the pulp left in the basket, but it has stems and all, so I dont think I can run it thru a food mill. Most likley will go to chickens, right now in the fridge. I have some plum juice too. I dont even drink juice or eat much fruit, have to keep the sugars down
