The pattern is swallowtail, which is free on Ravelry, along with pictures of a thousand completed shawls using it. I just did the 14 repeat of the bud section, so it is a small shawl, about 48" wide and 25 " long. SIze 4 needles, lace yarn, misti baby alpaca. Leaving it this size takes only one ball of yarn. It is actually medium blue, lit is in my avatar picture to the left in the real color, but the low light on the black piano washed the color out of the photo. It will be an artfully draped around the neck item for winter warm most likely, with some summer dress use. I gave it to my eldest daughter, who wont open it until next week.
This daughter is getting married in July, and I know she wants a shawl, so I am going to offer to do this one, larger and in white. So, this was also kind of a trial to see if I can handle the pattern and to see if she likes it.
I do feel that if I can do this, most knitters could. Patience and precision were key. I have brain damage and the pattern stuff and mistakes can be more challenging for me. I could only concentrate on a few rows a day. But, it is also theraputic to make my brain follow patterns, and it did get easier. I would check back when I hit the middle and end on each row so I didnt need to rip back into the last row. Once I realy got going on the bud (the main body) pattern, I was able to recognize pretty well, so since this is what is done more of to make one larger, it will be fine
