Ammo shortages (now 2016)? What are you seeing out there?

Local walmart in Morgantown, WV had 100rnd lose boxes of winchester handgun ammo.  I saw 9mm, 40 S&W, 38 spl, and .380.   About 3-4 boxes of each.   Plenty of the higher end hunting ammo for all the main calibers.

No 22LR to be had in anywhere I look.

I've got a good stash of .22, but like an idiot, I only bought one magazine for the .22 conversion for my AR.  While that's all well and good for normal shooting, for tactical training, it's kinda pointless, as I'm sure you'll agree.  I found one magazine at the most recent gun show and the guy wanted $75 for one .22 AR magazine.   Seriously, the conversion kit was $65 when I bought it.

I'm very happy that I started shooting .30 carbine recently.  It continues to be available on line for less than $0.50 a round.  It's the one gun, besides .22, that I can afford to shoot.  Again, an oddball round that is available because nobody uses it.

man i wish i could have seen then at those prices. my buddy is an ffl so he is ordering me the stainless cmmg conversion kit and letting me get it at cost, but even that is going to run me over double that price.

I saw a CMMG .22 conversion kit for an AR go for over $400 on GunBroker the other day.  Too rich for my blood.  I'm thinking about buying one a piece at a time: the bolt, then find extra .22 conversion mags.

I ordered the CMMG stainless steel 22lr bolt a month ago.  I the received  the bolt in about 10 days after I ordered it along with a few other parts.   Today I just ordered the dedicated 20" 22lr barrel from CMMG to build a classic flat top ar-15/22lr clone.

A guy at work got tired looking for any 22lr ammo at the stores; his solution to his ammo problem?  He spotted 8 boxes of 22-250 on the store shelves, ask if they had a rifle in that caliber and they said yes.  He now owns a new Savage 22-250 rifle + 80 rounds of ammo to take care of his rabbit problems.

After he told me this story I dug into my small ammo stash and gave him a bunch of 22lr ammo (250 rounds) so he does not have to dispatch rabbits at a buck a pop unless he wants to.

Checked my rural wal mart today. Only pistol ammo they had was 3 boxes of 40 cal. Only rifle ammo they had were 7mm, 270, 300, 30-06, and 308.

Was standing staring at the Walmart ammo case this week-pretty much only had shotgun ammo left.  Struck up a convo w a young man also standing there-he spontaneously gave me a report on what ammo he had seen available that day at two other stores "if you are looking for 40 I saw it over here-but only a few boxes"...  I thought that was kinda cool-a sign of helping ea other out rather than a selfish hoarding attitude.

I havent been able to touch .22 in weeks. Handgun is hit and miss.  The two things saving me are the fact that it is winter and i had a decent stock.  I am a little worried about Appleseed this year.  I heard that it would be 6 - 9 months before stock comes back to normal.  If you cant go out and buy a 500 brick, it is hard to do an Appleseed.

I'm starting to see some 308 stay on the shelves locally, at least in premium hunting loadings. Academy had 30-30 in stock, at $46 a box for a solid copper expanding load by remington.

I see it at all the Wally Worlds I visit — but the funny thing is that I don't own a .22 (anymore) — I don't have much use for a varmit gun in the city even though it USED TO be cost effective to practice with a .22

If I did own a .22 I would have cleaned them out of anything they have because the prices were not bad on it.

Where are you located?  I've not ever seen a Walmart is a metropolitan area.   By "metro" I mean someplace where street parking isn't free

Even 50 miles from Seattle, I've not found .22lr at any Walmart since last Christmas.

I went to big 5 twice in the last week no 9 no 22 no 223/556 the shelves are pretty cleaned out in those areas they even have signs on the door that says we did receive any .223/5.56 today.  Plenty of shot and weird stuff but im not too familiar with the stuff I don't shoot so I don't know the prices availability that well.  I wish we had guns/ammo at walmart. I think they used to when I was a kid

there is 22 short and 17hmr (more short though) around where i am. not much of anything else. people line up outside of sportman's warehouse here every friday (day after truck delivers good) like it's black friday. the store hands out tickets and they serve you in the order of your ticket number. that's the only way you can buy any firearms/ammo/reloading supplies.

This morning my Walmart had .22LR!!!!   Two whole 100rd boxes of Remington Yellow Jacket HP.   About a dozen or so of the small "matchbox" 50 rnd boxes of Winchester Super X HP. 

Various other handgun calibers, but only a box or two of each.   The sum total of thier delivery was on top of the counter and could have fit inside of one of those hand baskets you grab at the door when you walk in.

The Walmart across town is still stacked deep with .40 S&W (PPU brand).   Both locations still have a decent selection of the hunting caliber rifle rounds, 30-06, 308, 7mm, 270, etc.

Visited my local gun shop last night to pick up 500 rounds of MFS non-corrosive 7.62x39 for an out of town friend who'd just recently bought a Mini 30 stainless. While I was there I picked up 1000 rounds of Winchester M22. The store was out of the $42, Winchester bulk pack .45ACP of which I wanted to get one more, but otherwise still has everything I'd want.

I'll be back on Friday to with a friend to pick up a gun cabinet for their residence. I plan to get a bit more .22LR, two cases of 12 gauge trap loads and and maybe a few boxes of .22 Win Mag, which should round off my ammo purchases for now. If I weren't in the process of finishing a Master's degree and already working again, I'd have definitely gotten another 1600 round case of .223, one or two crates of 7.62x54R and probably another crate of .308, all still available at decent prices up here.

That said, some stores are already running out of .22LR and I've been told that others have been coming in and buying bulk purchases (i.e. 10 000 rounds of M22, $2000 worth of 7.62x39, etc) so sleeping too much on certain brands might cause people to miss out on getting them for the next several months.

At the local axis of eveil walmart store and they had zero 22 ammo no  handgun ammo and two boxes of 270/ 243 one each . they still had a fair amount of shot shells mostly target loads for trap but some game loads!

Not sure if this is all Dicks stores or just my local but they said they were getting 525rnd Blazer boxes in friday and there still just 21$.  Worth checking out.

ADK - what part of the country are you located?  I'm wondering if this might apply to Dick's in the greater Seattle area?  I'd previously sworn them off for their anti-black rifle politics, but ammo is ammo

.223 has started trickling in to my local Wal-Mart. My favorite WAS the 20 rd boxes of 55gr Tula for $4.97......the Tula rolling in now has changed....this Tula says " made in Italy" , has brass casings, and is packaged in 50 rd boxes for $16.50....still not a bad deal..
