I'm about 150 pages into Lights Out, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It's a better written book than Patriots: Surviving the coming collapse, but it does tend to drag on a bit. There are long stretches that seem to focus on a laundry list of mundane chores and errands that the main characters engage in, but it makes you consider what you would do in that same situation. I'm also able to focus on each character better than Patriots. In that one, each character got a brief description, and there was no real character development after that. All the characters pretty much blended together, while others seemed to be forgotten about completely. I haven't been having that problem with Lights Out, and with some editing, I think it would do well if published. The characters aren't totally steeped in cliche, and their speech and motivations are pretty realistic. I'm interested how the story pans out.
I'm having some difficulty with the PDF format, since reading anything on the computer for long periods of time is pretty tiring. I'd like to sit down with it in hand the old fashioned way, but I'll take what I can get. I'm not even going to consider printing all 611 pages either!
