Best Opening Day EVER!

Shotgun season for deer opened in Indiana yesterday. I don't usually get to hunt that day due to work, but I had it off this year. I hunted all morning with my hubby and his friends. Guess who got the deer? ME!!!!!! Even better, while I was walking back to my gear to get my field dressing gloves, my husband started dressing my doe and his friends jumped right in on my button buck. I checked them in myself (always a rewarding experience-the guys always gush over a chick coming in with her own deer), and my dad helped skin them out. We hunted some more in the afternoon, but no more luck. I ended my day at a combination after hunting party/baby shower (yeah, that was different) and had a great time there too. Come monday morning I'll put up some burger and roasts and then hit the woods again in the afternoon. LOVE this time of year! :clap:

Congratulations! ISTM that I remember the hunters saying the deer were very yummy in Indiana -- cornfed...

When we lived up there (Kokomo), I worked with several avid hunters. One of the guys brought in some venison chili... very good.

Congrats Cheryl.  I got my doe opening day this year, too.  Nothing like having your animal back at the truck in time for breakfast opening day. :D

Just had my first steak off her on Thursday night.  Sooo yummy I couldn't bring myself to save a bite for the wife. :-[  Maybe next time I'll cook one up for her, too. ;)

congrats , i gotta wait 5 more days. i hope i have a opening day like you. nothing like fresh back straps  after a successful hunt.. ;D

It took me four hours, but both of my deer are in the freezer. I'll try to figure out the pic thing, I haven't posted any pics on the forum yet.

Congrats on a awesome season. I can not wait until I can get back into hunting the deer. After 6 years and being in the city it is taking a while.
