Viatek® Renu-It™ Disposable Battery Regenerator?

Anyone know anything about these?  They sound too good to be true.  Hence my hesitation to buy one.  Although, I'm thinking I might just to try it out and see if it works at all.

I saw that too, TB, and wondered the same thing.  I've almost ordered it 3 times now :)  I'll google it and see what comes up...

All I found were places selling it.  I didn't see anyone reviewing it.

I vaguely remember as a kid recharging regular batteries until we were told that it was "dangerous".  If this things has some feature that would somehow safe guard from exploding batteries that would be wonderful.

Whew that was hard.

Why just not buy disposable batteries in the first place?

Do you mean Rechargeable batteries in the first place?  I have some of those too.  But, I have this huge pile of "dead" disposables now.  If I can bring them back from the dead(no zombie references please), that's a crapload of money I just saved.

Plus...I like the option of recharging any ol' AA or AAA battery I may happen to find in the PAW.

And I can buy 50 regular batteries for what I can buy 4 rechargeable.

If possible I could save a bunch of $$$$ and have an abundance of batteries.

It appears my Google-Fu is greater than others.  ;-]

Only place I could find reviews: http://shop.gadgetcool.com/5-1063498-B000J3L200-Renu_It.html

Sounds like this thing is a waste of money...

Fact check: The claim of "up to 100 times" is only possible if you never let the disposable cell runs lower than 1.4V at its terminals. That means you can only use around 20% of the battery capacity each time, before recharging it again. An exhausted disposable cell can never be brought back to its original capacity. Furthermore, the capacity drops with each subsequent deep discharge/recharge cycle. At best, you can get maybe one dozen cycles out of it, before its capacity becomes too low to be useful. At worst, the cell may start leaking electrolyte after just a few cycles, and ruin your battery-operated appliance. You have been warned!

Great concept, but nearly every battery I put in it leaked the first time around. I've tried cheap batteries, name brand batteries, old, new, everything. The cheap batteries have about a 75% chance of leaking, and the name brand batteries are about 50% chance. Be careful, because they don't usually leak while charging, they leak a couple days after they are taken out of the charger.
Quote
There is a reason why they are called disposable batteries. There simply is no technology to refurbish disposable batteries back to "like new" state. Waste your money on something else - this product DOES NOT and CAN NOT do what it claims since alkaline batteries have walls that are TOO THIN to be recharged without leaking the chemicals.

My first try to renew AA batteries failed. The lights turned off in a few hours and the batteries were still dead. The second try (different dead batteries) seemed to work. These were newly discharged batteries and it took about four days to renew them. I put them in my Bluetooth mouse and voila - worked great. Two days later, the mouse stopped working. The batteries had split and leaked, ruining a $50 mouse.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Yeah, but what if this is just a vast right wing conspiracy and this thing really does work and those googled reviews were just plants to throw us off track....

Wait, are those George W. Bush's initials on the picture of the thing?

Now your opening a real can of Jack's garden worms.

Last Summer I was looking for an apartment in So Cal.  Work was thinking of relocating me.  So I went online and researched dozens of apartment complexes.  There are websites that grade the various complexes based on the feed back of those who chime in whether good or bad.  Turns out the staff of some of these complexes will write glowing entries in order to boost there ratings.  You'll read 10 reviews on a complex where it is a real mega hell hole and one where it is like a club med.

All that to say you might not want to judge anything based on a singular review.  Some are simply the competition trashing each other.

So...you're saying Duracell wrote the bad reviews for the battery regenerator?  My brain hurts.

I think you need to go buy one and try it out and give us an unbiased first hand trust worthy account.

Yup that's what I think.

But...but...but, what if the Duracell people find out!?!  They might put a contract out on me for ruining their business with the ability to recharge disposable batteries.

Oh I love this forum!  I have a cart filled with sportsmans guide stuff just waiting for me to push the buy button.  I need to sleep on it, but I'll probably order this thing tomorrow.  I'll let you know what happens.
