Review: Gerber Omnivore
« on: October 10, 2008, 12:08:40 PM »
I picked up the Gerber Omnivore from REI a few weeks back. It touts itself as being able to accept 1 AA, 1 AAA, or 1 CR123 battery as its power source!!

I had to snag one of these for my EDC so it can be powered by whatever's available!

Opening it up, you can see the three battery slots that are spread across the case. There is one big terminal in the cap that will let any of the three battery types to close the circuit.

Powering on the flashlight, I was really surprised that the 12 lumens it claims was as bright as it was. It comes with a AA battery already, though I may sneak in a CR123 for the greater lumens/range.

AAA - 4hrs - 150ft range - 10 Lumens
AA - 5.5hrs - 150ft range - 12 Lumens
CR123 - 5hrs - 190ft range - 18 Lumens

Pretty neat flashlight for $40. Definitely worth it for the versatility!

I saw one of these at REI a week ago, and I've been thinking I should've bought one (or two) ever since... Now I will! Thanks for the review BigDan!

Thanks for the review, I'm always on the lookout for a good flashlight and I'm a fan of Gerber products.  I'll pick one up!

Wow! That's a neat idea! That's one GREAT item to have if forced to lead a scavenging lifestyle in the PAW!

Very cool to have the option of different battery types.  I always have AA on hand, but it would be nice to be able to use which ever the store happened to have on hand.
