.20-06?

So, my father gave me a few his guns and a bunch of ammo. Among the guns were my old .22 I had as a kid and .30-06. He gave me rounds for them, as well as for my 9mm and my .38 special.

Now, among the ammo that he sorted out to give me were 2 boxes of .20-06 ammo. Never heard of it before. It's written just like .30-06, but with a "20." He doesn't have anything that fires that nor do I. I asked around at work (I'm in the military) and no one had anything that fires it.

What is a .20-06? Is it like a hunting round for smaller animals?

If anyone has any experience with a .20-06 and can enlighten me and possibly point me to a good gun that fires it, I would be much obliged.

Thanks.

Very basic information for that cartridge:

I'd say it's little more than a collectible.  Maybe a museum would be interested?

Hmm, I'll have to look at my box again. It didn't look like it was a .30-06 necked down to a .20 like the article on the wiki describes.

That's too bad.
I wonder how on earth my dad stumbled on such a thing.

I'm intrigued...Post a picture of a cartridge if you can.  Even better if you can set it next to a 30'06 cartridge fro comparison.

Check this out. Looks like someone knows how to make something work for it.

As a 22 hornet lover I can see the usefulness.

Ruger 204.
