overdnigter with my boy
« on: May 25, 2010, 10:28:35 PM »
This weekend I took my oldest boy (9) out for an overnight camp out. We go camping a lot, but it has been a while sence it has been just me and him.  We were invited to a friends land, some 200 ac or so and set up at a pond he has out in the woods.  It was hot, humid, muggy and downright uncomfortable. There was no place I would have rather been  :)

We had plans to pack in a lot of stuff to do. A lot didn't get done just due to the heat and humidity, but the most imporaint thing was getting some good woods time with my boy.

I thought I would share some photos

With camp set, were getting ready to gather firewood, got to show off some steel

I had to follow suit

Dinner was provided by my friend, minus a little prep work.  I skipped most of the photos of this process due to the graphic nature. If I get request and the mods don't have a problem, I will add them later

Back at camp, My son take charge of the fire. He was using a ferrocerium rod and steel wool and pine straw.  Still working on his flint and steel skills

Dinner is ready.  We had some bannock to go along with the rabbit

Dinner lighting.

This is my favorite shot.  We enjoyed some chai tea before hitting the rack

The meat selection for breakfast was something I picked up for a possible comfort food item for a BOB. Bacon flavored SPAM substitute.

I figured that while it might not be as good as real bacon, it might be bacony enough.  Unfortunately, there was no real bacon flavor. Still, not bad.

We were going to see about knocking down some squirrels for lunch, but there was not a lot moving around in the heat.  We took the opportunity to do little rifle work anyway.

regardless of the heat, we both had a great time.  We are planning to do this more often, hopefully a few time before the REAL heat of summer hits.

We are planning to do this much more often, hopefully at least a few more before the real heat of summer hits.

That is quality time. Nice.

You almost tricked me into thinking that was a 10/22 against the tree. Marlin 60 I presume...

Great pictures, thanks for sharing.  Those are the best times of our lives.

I had to chuckle at the "Bacon flavors SPAM substitute".  Great line.

Keep on Keepin on

Looks like a GREAT time. I'm only a couple short years away from a similar trip with my little guy.
