Hey guys, im new. So i was looking through this, and i got to wondering...anyone from Arkansas have any tips on survival in general in our state?
Things like what to include in the BOB, lists of edible plants, hunting seasons,anything?

Head nets and bug repelant are mandatory. Mosquitoes and chiggers (redbugs) can ruin an outing.

I second the watch for chiggers. you really have to watch out for them. Twice at the range in Ft Smith did I get bitten alive by them suckers

well the only thing i can think of now is that i have two phases to my to go bags, they just got repacked from winter mode.
repacking my bags twice a year gives me a chance to relearn where everything is and to look at exp dates on food.
also change out water and update my med kit for anything i have just shoved in there or used.

Bug repellant is mandatory, also consider Benadryl and Calamine lotion.

Ragnar, what range do you go to in Ft Smith? I am a member at OFGC.

Might be nice to ahve a meet and greet here locally. I would love to go some of the other get togethers but work putsw a big damper on that.

I am also a member at OFGC. I usually shoot all the USPSA matches there, but have not been in a while (got married last week, so that has taken some of my time) But I was planning on going there Sun if the weather holds out (does not look like it). We need to plan a meet up sometime soon

I'm in Garfield, Ar. and the ticks are the worst pest i encounter in the woods around here. i have been told flea colliers around your ankles will help keep them off. i have not tried this yet but i can see how this might work. i bet keeping one on your BOB will keep bugs out if you put it down while in the woods.

Hey! I live in the stix just west of Batesville, and want to join the chorus about chiggers. They will tear you up! That said, I'm glad I'm here. A couple of months ago, I was standing on the main drag in Newport, trying to sell a shotgun to a guy in front of his business. People were walking and driving by, and nobody batted an eye! And, here's the amazing part, NOBODY CALLED THE COPS! It was as if owning and possessing firearms was a normal part of life! GOD, I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

But I still recommend you lay in a good supply of insect repellent as part of your preps.

The flea collar thing will work somewhat. They stop ticks that have to crawl past them. Be sure to blouse your boots. Any that attach themselves above will be glad to go to higher territory. Thank goodness it is beginning to cool off. Mosquitos are finally tolerable again.

just moved in with the MIL to save for a down payment on a house. thats the bad news the good side of this is i get to do a four bed square foot garden this year and just ordered 40 dollars in seeds from seed savers. starting seeds now and planting in the first part of april will be posting pics as soon as there is something to see

Since we come from all over, we need to pick a central location for a meet-up. How about the Folk Center at Mt.View? It is a pretty area and they have picnic areas, or they will arrange for a private area in their dining room for a luncheon.

Another possibility would be somewhere in the Mountain Home area. Maybe Gaston's.

Maybe Chris70 would let us use his store. That's assuming he doesn't mind having a bunch of strangers having a party in it.

What are some other ideas?

IIRC, Ozark is just off I-40, so it should be fairly convienient for everyone. How about a potluck and everybody BYOB?

I'm dealing with some medical issues, so any weekend 20-21 March or later is best for me. We'll need some specific directions to the meet-up site.

Would also be helpful to get a head count once a date/location is established.
