Title: Speed Your Web Surfing Dramatically (and reduce frustration)
Post by: Tommy Jefferson on August 15, 2010, 03:33:26 AM
I found it highly irritating that many web pages took forever to load.  You've probably seen your web browser hang while trying to load "y.tmg"  "s20.sitemeter.com" or some other odd thing.

As a test, I installed a Firefox add-on called "Ghostery" which blocks third-party cookies.

WOW!

I swear my page loads on some websites has sped up by 40%.  I recommend anyone irritated by slow page loading install this blocker as a test to see if it helps you.

The Javascript run by these third parties also slows down your computer.  Not only that, it's often buggy Javascript so badly written it wads up your whole browsing session necessitating a restart.

If you have a dial-up connection, blocking advertisement images can also dramatically speed your load times.  I love:

Be careful not to block trackers you like such as Facebook and Google Ads.

Just downloaded. Interesting. It does seem to make loading faster. It's fun to watch the things that it blocks.
