Denver Self-Reliance Expo?
« on: October 28, 2014, 11:13:49 PM »
Hey, fellow Coloradoans, Denverites and nearby especially.

Has anyone heard any advertising at all about next weekend's (November 6-7th) Self Reliance Expo?

I have seen a few ads in Backwoods Home Magazine, but there was not a huge lead up. I really only started seeing them about 2 months ago.

Have fun folks.  I am TDY and will be unable to attend.  Sounds cool though.

Hmmm, might be able to make it Friday easier than the weekend, but given my experiences at the last couple of expos, I am not putting too much energy into going. I get more out of the sportsman's expo in January.

We may drop by on Friday afternoon/evening.  But, seeing the VERY small size of exhibitors (45 or so, including such non-prepping stuff as DirectTV, DoTerra Essential Oils, Champion Windows, Magic Masseuse, "Snake Blocker" <sigh>, an insurance company and a second essential oils company) and hearing NO advertisement*, I'm hesitant to spend the $5 parking fee plus $10 per person entry fee.

This is sounding more and more like last year's "Armageddon Expo" that self-destructed on the first day.

* NOTE: I did happen to speak to someone who confirmed that SRE is NOT doing any advertising other than direct-trade (such as the case with Backwoods Home) or email.  There are NO radio or TV ads.  I think this hearkens the death of this particular event, sadly.

Yeah, I'm mostly going for the Vitamix and Berkey booths, and maybe Backwoods Home. Not interested in too much else.

Went to the one in Arlington years ago when Jack spoke. I agree with him that the Expo is poorly managed. If you happen to be in the area though, is worth stopping by.

Any reports from people who attended this event?

I had gone to a few of these in the past but decided to skip this year.

After looking at the website, we decided not to go.  They were down to something like 35 exhibitors and only a half-dozen presentations over two days, none of which sounded even vaguely interesting to us.

A couple of friends went by and said that there were a few people at the event, but they felt like they had gotten scammed over the ticket fee and parking, compared to last year.

It turns out the event has new management who decided not to advertise, in any way which obviously turned off exhibitors.  Who wants to go to a show that isn't advertised?  I also know many people who didn't know the show was happening and were disappointed that they received no email notification.

This is what happens through crappy management and promotion.  Oh well.  I don't feel as if I missed anything.

Yeah, you can't have an event like this go on auto pilot. The one I went to years ago was interesting, but had several drawbacks noted. Did buy a solar oven and other supplies, and got to meet Jack, Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy, Jackie Clay, and others.

I got a display model Berkey and a reconditioned Vitamix, which I had been planning on getting, but other than that there was nothing worth going for. It was kind of sad how small it was compared to last year. I think some of the vendors only showed up on Friday because there were some empty booths on Saturday that looked like someone had been there the day before. Sales must've been that bad :-\
