2 lanterns? You ever use both of them at the same time? I have a magnet mount headlamp on a 12 foot cord. That has been sufficient for me so far.
I carry a fire hatchet instead of the chain saw, it's smaller and uses less gas.

Does the milk crate do a good job of protecting that blue water jug? I had one split open on me the first time I used it and drained all 7 gallons of water into the seat of my year old vehicle. Needless to say, I am less then happy with that product.
I got a 2.5 gallon jug of bottled water from the store. That lasted a month, and it has slid around enough that I noticed that it's leaking now too. Mind you, I walk to work so I have driven my vehicle about 3k miles so far this year. Not a good track record for that container.
I am about to see if one of those blue water cooler jugs will fit into a 5 gallon bucket. That is just a really inconvenient shape for me though. Hard to use and hard to store.
I prefer to carry distilled water in my vehicle for battery top-offs and radiator fills. I have actually had to use my water to top off a radiator on a tow truck that was picking up my car due to a busted timing belt.
Anybody find something that works well for distilled water in a vehicle? It's actually harder now that I have a Ford Escape then it was with my old Ford Escort.
You just can't hide anything in an SUV like you can in a trunk of a car. Long rides, people are turned around rummaging through your stuff. I am half tempted to keep a LARGE box of condoms pretty shallow so they find it quickly and stop out of embarrassment.
