and I wonder how many new chicken people will get rid of them at the end of the summer - just when they are about to start laying.   But life is back to normal, so .... why keep birds?

I don't care so long as the final number is "more"

We are more resilient with some portion of the population buying chicken feed rather than eggs.

good point. And chickens are addictive - sit on a chair in the late evening and watch them clean the freshly mowed lawn; so relaxing!

Colorado Springs Gazette article of backyard chickens in The Springs. Very positive with the appropriate caveats for people to not get into it casually.  I think it captured how they are also a form of interaction for quarantined people, not just an egg source.

We've sold down to just 8 hens and the 2 roosters. Our feed bill was getting outa hand.
It's good now and the number of eggs per day are still too many but we do give to family and friends.

Our local ordinance is so restrictive that backyard chicken keeping is a rarity.
