I drew out an elk tag for unit 49 in New Mexico
« on: May 02, 2016, 11:49:42 AM »
I really didn't think we would do it but luck was on our side!

My father in law and I drew out a rifle Elk tag for October 15-19.  And my brother in-law drew out for the neighboring unit for the next week! Not the most convenient thing but we will make it work.

Kinda looking for any advice or experience hunting or camping in this area.  This isn't out first rodeo but we are still somewhat new to elk.  I have hunted deer, duck, goose, and turkey in Oklahoma for about 15 years.  I have been on 4 elk hunts so I know what to expect on the hunt in general but I do need help finding a good place to set up camp.

I am mainly looking for somewhere with at least an outhouse style toilet. We can and have done the remote style where you dig a hole and pop a squat but its a lot easier for us to have a crapper.  Other than that we just take the camper and a generator.

Thanks for any advice or tips in advance!!
