massive ocean storm surge floods New England coast (videos)

Check out videos of storm swell we had today on Boston's south shore. I used to live down that way in Junior High school days but not right on the ocean.

  These videos show waves going over the sea wall, hitting houses and flooding streets. We had strong nor easter with with winds gusting to near 70. At the height of the storm it looked like the buoys where reporting 30 foot swells offshore which at that size is going to lose some power when it hits shallower water. The swells peaked at low tide otherwise it could have been much worse.

 I am hoping to drive my camper down to Rhode Island and go surfing on Sunday if the wind drops enough. The swells and winds should have dropped enough by then to make it manageable. The air temp should get close to 40 degrees

It's a mess there because the wind is blowing hard onshore, anyplace the wind goes offshore the surf will be totally clean

Ok, cool. I think I will either go to point Judith or K38/K39. Here is the description of k38/k39 which is a more mellow longboard break inside of a breakwater

Known as “The Ks” these two deep-water peaks provide long, workable walls on the lefts and shorter, steeper rights at K39’s more eastern take-off point. No barrels, even when it’s as big as it gets, making it a favorite for longboarders and cruisers. S or SE swell only, lower tides, with winter NE’ers being just enough offshore."

Hi Allan, I surfed at that spot today I described: point Judith break water - K38/K39. There was about 30 surfers there, many from out of state. This is a popular spot, no one was surfing the other spots as the surf was out of control or the wind was wrong at those places creating too much chop. The west side of the light house was
maybe ok but no one was there and I didn't want to surf alone. Inside the break water the surf was nice and clean with some pretty big sets every 5 or 10 minutes. I caught some of those long lefts. If it wasn't so crowded I would have caught more waves. Lots of rocks, air temp was 41 and water about the same. I took my camper down. It's about an hour and a half drive from wher I live

Surfing's something I've neglected for decades now, something I need to get back on.  Not much of it around here, but over near my brother's place in the FL panhandle it's at least rideable some days.

 Wannasurf shows Pensacola beach in Florida, one spot in Louisiana and many spots in Texas

Surfline shows some spots in Alabama, I would think there's got to be some swells during hurricane season. If the swell is too big, you just wait a day or two for it to drop to a more moderate size. Click on spots shown on the map and it discusses surf possibilities there such as Terry's cove and spots on Dauphin Island

No.  I always borrowed my brother's when he was off at college then grad school, etc.  Then I followed suit and it all fell to the wayside.
