A little off subject but can anyone here tell the meaning behind the saying " Shot the whole nine yards" Hint, Army Airforce WWII.

I just watched a WWII story about some bomber and fighter pilots a couple weeks ago and one of the pilots (I don't know his age), mentioned the Whole 9 Yards, had something to do with using up all their ammo. I didn't pay too much attention, but that was the impression I got was he said that it had to do with running out of ammo or something along those line.

Originally "the whole nine yards" was a tailoring reference for haberdasheries.
A man's suit made from "the whole nine yards" was a fully lined suit with a vest, as opposed to a discount suit that used less cloth.
Later the phrase was picked up by gunners firing 9 yards of belt fed ammo, although I'm not sure but what that was a point of confusion on the part of the gunners seeing the older use of the phrase was already obscure.
Now days I hear people saying "the whole ten yards" as a football reference and have even heard arguments between drunks about which is correct, nine yards or ten.
Its kind of like the phrase, "In a pinch" which has been distorted by the History Channel into having its origins in Gold Rush California, rather than its much older use in reference to "pinching a purse" and therefore being "pinched" or "caught in a pinch", a form of theft in London circa 1700's.

I suppose TWAH.

Just to confuse it even more... In the construction world they think the phrase comes from the amount of concrete in the transit-mix concrete trucks since some of them carry 9 cubic yards of concrete. I've also heard the ammo version - the belted machine-gun ammunition for some fighter planes, when laid out prior to loading, measured 9 yards.

Funny how we all know what it means, even if the origins are murky!

EDC = Every Day Carry - essentially what you have with you pretty much every day - some take it to mean in your pockets / on your person, others extend it to what's in their car.

An Ex is a has been a spurt (spert) is a drip under pressure so an expert is a has been drip under pressure. Now to return you to your regular programming. Shouldn't things carried in your car be EDCC? Everyday car carry.

EMT: USAF / RED HORSE specific equipment - Expresso Machine, Tactical: A compact, man - portable device used for the steam brewing of coffee, the steaming of milk, etc. in an austere or field environment.

The EMT device weighs approx. 1 kG, and occupies an area of approx. 1 ft³. The mechanism is externally powered by 110/120 VAC and serviced with Grade 100% Colombian coffee or higher.

Indeed, LvsChant. It must be a medium-fine grind. Too coarse and there isn't enough surface area to fully expolite the beans. Too fine, and the grinds clog the holes in the basket and the EMT starts showing signs of excessive pressure - steam coming out of places it shouldn't, loud whistling noises, etc. Not good.

I see the comments that are posted under each show on the main page, and I see the descrption of the show, but I never see the notes where jack talks about posting links to various things and what not. Ok, maybe I'm blind, maybe I'm an idiot, but I finally decided to swallow my pride and ask.
