If you have product ideas that we haven't heard yet, let's hear 'em now!
-
Ok! I'll be the firstn to bite.
My thought is SAKs(Swiss Army Knives) and or MTs(Multitools) with the TSP logo(which ever one you decide)
My only question is which one??
My argument for the SAKs:
As with the SAKs, Wenger's has their new Ranger-one handed lockblade series(
http://www.wenger.net.au/wengerpro.asp?cid=2&scid=30 (http://www.wenger.net.au/wengerpro.asp?cid=2&scid=30) http://www.wenger.net.au/wengerpro.asp?cid=2&scid=35 (http://www.wenger.net.au/wengerpro.asp?cid=2&scid=35) ). And ironically, this new series looks more "general public friendly" than most of the MTs on the market.
My argument for the multitool:
Though their asthetics doesn't make MTs "general public friendly". MTs can just about repair everything short of a broken heart.
-
MTs can just about repair everything short of a broken heart.
classic BT! :D
-
How about a good quality bolo machete in carbon steel with a thick blade and full tang? That's on my wish list right now...
-
LMAO @ BT - actually, I've used a (sterilized) multitool in bypass surgeries on several dogs. I beg to differ that they cannot be used to mend a broken heart.
:D
Edit to add - this was not in a veterinary clinic - it was in a lab, where we were testing stints.
-
How about M&Ms in TSP colors?
-
How about M&Ms in TSP colors?
I like that concept. But it won't be useful to any of us with diabetes :'(
-
TSP has colors? ???
-
Mash, the colors could be brown for us ants and green for the grasshoppers. That way we know which color to eat first.
-
TSP branded bacon - cause everything is better with bacon!!!
Ok, sorry - on vicodin thinking about real food (see my thread on my recent dental adventures...)
-
I think sticking to prepping type products would be best. Maybe a water bottle with a logo. You could make up mini survival kits in the bottles, and sell them empty or full.
-
Thanks for the ideas to all of you. Some good input here, please keep it coming.

No green M&Ms!! Doesn't anyone remember the teenage myth? ::)
-
BT, I musta missed that one...
-
BT, I musta missed that one...
When I was a teenager, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, eating green M&Ms made you horny!!
So unless TSP has a secret breeding program in the works, hold off on adding green M&Ms into your preps! ::)
-
BT - thats a new one on me but hey I figure if we're breeding more preppers whats the harm? lol
how about some key chains.... do they maybe make a fire starter that we could put the logo on
wallets
money clips.... silver pouches :-D
just some thoughts
-

Awwwwww....come on....M&Ms are totally survival products! ;D Can't find a really good trail mix without them! :D Also, in case you haven't noticed I have a penchant for not being serious when I can help it. Besides, I can see them now...teal, black, and maybe brown? Each with a white Val logo on it instead of the M. Yeah...there you go! :D Or! Or we could have alternating ant and logos on the M&Ms! I'm just saying....someone would eat them....
What is funny is when I was a kid there was a product called Grasshoppers. Essentially they were Oreos with green mint creme. They were sooooooo good. Maybe we could make those with logos on them.
I'm hungry. :)
-
BT,
*snort* hee hee. I had not heard that either. Us single folks would then be in trouble! Best avoid green! ::)
ColdHaven, isn't there some kind of drink called a grasshopper? Maybe we could start our own liquor store......Although I am partial to M's. M&M is my cb handle and my initials, and they are good chocolately goodness, can't go wrong there.
*getting serious here*
I do like the keychain idea.
-
okay, I went to the m&m site and you can't print a logo on the teal, brown or black. It has to be the lighter colors. Like red, green, blue, silver and white. We can also upload a picture. I am going to run it all through and see what some prices would be.... I'll get back to y'all.
-
Okay, wow, they are pretty pricey. And a lot of minimum orders. You can buy in bulk, but then they would have to be repackaged, so I am not sure it would really be a savings. Too bad.
-
Oh well. Thanks for doing the research, though! Yeah, they are probably not wanting you to make a profit on it and that is why its like that. Its more like for special occasions, ect.
-
Hey Sis, how about one of those head gear things you wore at Dirttime09. I've seen plenty of comments about them and folks seem to like the idea of them. I would look totally stupid in one, but then I don't wear hats cuz I just don't look good in a hat. I do visors, which by the way, could be an idea too.

You like GORP??
Do what I do. Add to it walnuts, stick pretzels, & shredded mini wheats with extra bran :P
-
Any more ideas? Come on people tell us what you would like to have.
TW
-
I'd like to see some keychain multitools with a TSP logo on them. It can spread the word, add to our every day carry, and be useful.
-
Survival books? ::)
-
I like the key chain fire starter idea. I was thinking about a bandanna with some useful outdoor/survival info in it I have seen similar ones it could be a TSP themed version.
-
I don't know if this would help, but I happen to also be a member of the Jerzee Devilz(a bunch of us that enjoy custom knives, wilderness skills, and good food & drink). We have a section known as "Devilz Gear(we make our own)"- http://www.jerzeedevil.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=48 (http://www.jerzeedevil.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=48)
Hopefully, this might help in figuring out what products you may consider! ;)
-
I too would like to see a TSP branded keychain firestarter of some sort . I would love to be able to give them as gifts for both the utility and the guerrilla marketing potential.
-
how about mutli-level checklists. Its not all gucci, but one checklist for the newbie, another for the BOL, the BOV, the BOB and so on. People can add/delete items, personalize it and so on. There are plenty of threads here about each topic, but a one-stop shop for the authentic TSP checklist items would probably be useful - could make it a MSB-free and nominal charge to download the form for all others.
-
top just came off my travel coffee mug at work....coffee mug (ceramic) and one for the bug out - perhaps with a screw-off bottom with more coffee.
camel bak - with built-in water purifier.
BPA-free plastic water bottle.
Playing cards (TSP logo)
(beer) can/bottle cozie with bottle opener attached and small LED (basically what I did to my FSU cozie to keep from searching for a bottle opener and find my way to the head when camping)
-
zippo
-
Tire Cover
-
I like the fire starter idea, maybe combined with a miniture knife for a keychain.
http://thelanyardzone.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=53 (http://thelanyardzone.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=53)
or maybe a compass (find your way to TSP): http://cgi.ebay.com/Fire-Steel-Survival-Striker-Army-Camping-Flint-Compass_W0QQitemZ130342415288QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_3?hash=item1e59036bb8 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Fire-Steel-Survival-Striker-Army-Camping-Flint-Compass_W0QQitemZ130342415288QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_3?hash=item1e59036bb8)
or a whole key chain like this: http://global.ebay.com/Paracord_survival_fire_starter_flint_keyring_-_key_fob/350264849819/item (http://global.ebay.com/Paracord_survival_fire_starter_flint_keyring_-_key_fob/350264849819/item)

Prepper Saint - You are INDEED a Saint.
THANK YOU. I LOVE the idea of the prepper mug with the extra coffee (maybe those starbucks Via coffee packets?) in a hidey hole in the bottom. That's such a cool idea.
-
TSP branded tactical nukes for World War Z.
:-p
What about little Oh Shit Kits for various purposes? Simple ones like for the car - spark plug wrench, boot grease, tire patch kit, small ratchet, flares, etc.?
Already mentioned the plastic version of the challenge coin as a cheap giveaway item for new preppers.
TSP branded heat packets (hot hands/pugz heat/etc.) would be great if they'd be cheaper in quantity than what you can get at an inconvenience store. *duh* :-p
MP3 Player with video - I have an ativa player that I got for about 30 bucks - and pre-load it with videos on field trauma medicine, automotive field expedient repairs, basic survival skill how-to's, and nationwide emergency services contact information. OR a CD with that same stuff on it designed for iTunes or whatever to upload it to your own MP3/4 player. I'm doing this gradually with my PDA, and designating an orange SD card as my electronic oh shit kit. A red one has my WiFi tools and such on it (skype, airsnort, etc.).
Hardbound or durable spiral bound waterproof field manuals for basic survival skills would be handy too. Small ones, just a page or two each for various topics - kind of like a flip chart. Don't put everything in one, just cover a topic area in each of several 10-20 page flip manuals. Put a velcro strap on it so you can flip to the page you need and strap it to your thigh for quick reference. A gap in the binding would accomodate this - flip it open, pass the strap through behind the page you're looking at, and cinch it down to thigh/forearm while you work.
Just a few brain farts for you!
-
I know we have TSP stickers, but what about the kind you can stick to your car from the inside so that they won't suffer from the weather?
-

Or the hard plastic discs like we freemasons put on our car bumpers ::)
-
Or the stamped brass ones that my grandfather had on his car... he was a Shriner - damn pretty symbolism/coloring on that medallion.
I just had an idea along those lines tho - I gotta pm sisterwolf about the plastic things, might have a super low cost solution!
-
PM received and responded to, Orion. I'm really excited about one of your ideas.
-
TSP Carabiners, not the fashion 'unable to hold weight' ones though but that probably goes without saying.
Also as for the water bottles, stainless steel water bottles would be awesome! The screw top KleanKanteen (http://www.kleankanteen.com/products/classic/klean-kanteen-27oz-classic.html) type would be so durable. Then again the price point is higher than plastic so that should be taken into consideration.

^This got me thinking.... What about a smallish shoulder bag, with a non-imprinted, actual weight bearing carabiner attached, and a non-imprinted bottle in the bag?
Bag I'm thinking of:
The price point for those bottles might be higher than plastic, but they're higher quality. I'll get a quote and let you know how much the entire bag would be.

I LIKE that bag. I am a purse/tote kind of gal and that is very cool looking. A nice long shoulder strap would be excellent. I like to sling it over my shoulder especially if I am shopping or at an airport, makes it much easier to handle luggage or shopping bags. How about an umbrella too! It could be a whole little kit of its own. A bag, a water bottle, a carabiner and an umbrella. Oh yeah, I am so in for one of those.
Looked at the stickers, they look good too.
-
I like the bag but I must say that it makes me itch to just embroider a bag with the logo. I am a tote kind of gal myself but I'll pass on the umbrella, I have too many of those for now.
Also, since they are all the rage these days, those reusable shopping bags. They are rather inexpensive to make and last a good long time. Great for promotions and such so they would serve more than just one purpose.
-
Did anyone mention a flashlight? You can never have too many flashlights...of all shapes and sizes.
-

thats what I keep telling my mom but she never believed me til we lost power in a ice storm one year:P then she decided she liked my (her words) flashlight fetish:P
-
SW,
Where are you on the TSP cookbook?
Flash drive with the TSP logo.
Maybe a toboggan/sock cap for those of us that deal with cold weather, with the TSP embroidered.
Maybe a Tin Foil Hat with the TSP sticker on it for the Tin Foil Hatters. (or will the sticker allow the govt. transmissions a dead spot in the foil and allow the Obama Health care message in!!!) ;)
-
SW,
Where are you on the TSP cookbook?
Man, I'm soooooo far behind on it. I've gotten an offer from help from one of my favorite mods, though, so it might be coming soon.
-
Great sounds good.
-

I'm not sure I understand what you mean here. Is putting a logo on a good quality bag different from putting a logo on a good quality water bottle somehow?
-

No not at all. I mean that having an embroidered logo would be cool (and durable) but generally rather costly. I was thinking of perhaps having an embroidery or cross-stitch pattern available in the store would be cool. :)
-

oooooooh. I figured I was missing something.
Heck a cross-stitch pattern would be EASY to make up.
Also - I was considering having the bag silk-screened, not embroidered. Embroidery would be gorgeous, but not really very cost-effective in the long run.
-
I've asked for a quote on those bags, along with custom maglites, and 18 oz klean kanteens (moss green, thank you very much). I'm going off to get carabiner quotes now. Can't promise anything (at all) for any of these items, but I am pricing them just in case they turn out to be worth-while.
-
Be sure to check Harbor Freight for the carabiners. I see them there from time to time in various colors for tens of cents a piece. Not the best quality, but not horrible, quite functional, and perfectly adequate for hanging a canteen or a bag.
-
What about a tobogan hat for the winter time when we are out and about in the yard or what have you.
Rook

I have a variation of the same idea. How about a Maxpedition Rolypoly dump pouch with either an embroidered TSP logo, or sew a patch to it. Similar to this picture here.
-
How about the TSP logo in the lite stencil for vehicles? Sorta like those little families you see on the back of vans?
But It should include the URL as well, so folks who are intrigued can find us.
And for that bag, perhaps an umbrella pocket on the outside, for those with too many umbrellas? ;)
-
Sorry for the double post, but was just checking out Skinit (http://www.skinit.com/devices/mp3_player) and you can custom design skins for the MP3 player of your choice, perhaps TSP skins?
Particularly, Zune and Ipod?
-
How about a flash drive pre loaded with a variety of survival manuals, how to info, check lists and such.
-
light bulb went off ... pay a small monthly fee, and do a netflix style cue- custom BOB loadout sub-kits!
ok, so you pay $10/mo. or so, and select 6 or 8 items @ a time. as you get paid up, the next item ships.
doing this on my axim PDA. one. character @ a time! zomg!!!
kits could be field trauma, manuals, radios, lights, etc. all designed to be stand-alone single-p.o.u. items, but assembled together, you have a monster flexible BOB! keep component cost close to monthly subscription rates, and *poof* you've got a BOB-of-the-month club.
?
-
These are all awesome ideas. I've been thinking about variations on the BOB of the month club, Orion. I love the idea, but I'm not sure it would sell, and it would require me being pretty darn sure that such a thing would sell before we created it, due to the continued cost of such a thing on our end.
It's a really cool idea, though, I'll give you that much. :)
-
*high five*
Great minds think alike.
If you set it up with a simple database, you could automatically keep track of subscribers' account balances, and their "queue", and have it make a weekly report of what to order. I don't think anyone would mind if there were a bit of lag for the initial order, since once it got rolling there would be a fairly constant balance-driven interval between shipments.
In reality it's more of an escrow or layaway system. I was just thinking of it from the angle - don't spend more than X per month on Y commodity or project - this would automate it, and let you select items to invest in. I had actually thought of it in terms of buying silver - like if there were a way to automatically buy roughly 30 bucks of silver every month (two or three rounds, depending on spot and all that) then it would make things much easier, and I'd just get a shipment of five or ten rounds every two or three months. Google does something similar with thier AdSense system - even though you earn per click or per view, you only get a check when your balance reaches a multiple of 100 bucks.
Anywho, when I get my welder and 3-axis mill all set up the way I want 'em, I'll be turning out a few projects that I might throw at you. Gently, of course. ;-)

How about blank spiral notebooks with Val and the URL on the front? They should be pretty inexpensive, have a wide range of uses and if they show up in schools, it will get the kids interested and hopefully steer the next generation on the right track.
Receiver hitch covers
Reusable grocery bags
Reverse print, TSP message displaying laser pointer to be used by aiming at the back side of teleprompter glass so the message is displayed the correct way on the front, and the speaker reads the TSP message without realizing it? ;D I really want to hear Obama tell America to live the modern survival lifestyle... lol
-
One more idea for the guys in the service, or us prior service types that still like our mil-spec gear, subdued color patches, t-shirts and hats.
-
I need to go graffitti bombing again - we could totally put the TSP logo and URL on the side of a building for 20 or 30 minutes during an evening rush hour.
WEWT!
Another thought - what about one of those super powered green laser pointers with some custom messages?
You could just aim it up at the clouds at night, and indicate your need for rescue in a SHTF situation. talk about beam-riding!

BUt the school administrators would have the student expelled and force to have a psychological exam for being a free thinking anarchist
-
Books! I already have a literal ton of books but perhaps a good idea would be a series of short books. Even down loadable on everything from tearing down an AR to simple ways to test your soil... It could be called the WTSHTF Library.
People could have the whole set on hand as a reference WTSHTF.
I work in the publishing world so I am always thinking in these lines.
-
We're working on that right now, Lenwood. We're going to start publishing them next year. :) I just bought Adobe InDesign (along with adobe acrobat pro, and dreamweaver, and photoshop, and fireworks, and and and....), and it's SO COOL for creating ebooks, and e-newsletters (complete with flash videos, etc). We've already started thinking along these lines.
One of the things we're seriously tossing around is the idea of "classes". Say, a SHORT ebook on the subject (like a pattern, or instruction manual), and then set up a live chat on the subject once a week with the person who wrote the book. Stuff like making soap, or canning fruits, or knitting, or (insert prepping skill here).
And the rest of the ideas are for ebooks - exactly like what you mentioned, lenwood.
-
I thought I had already posted this, but maybe I stuck it in a different thread, how about "tactical" or subdued color t-shirts? I am a tshirt guy, but usually only wear black during the cooler months. Maybe a tan shirt with OD green / black print, and / or an OD green shirt with tan / black print?
-
OSS, you DID post this in another thread, but I'm glad you posted it again here, because I loved the idea when I saw it, and then sorta forgot about it with all the other stuff that we're doing day-to-day with the business. We'll definitely draw something like this up, and see how it looks. :)
-
How about one of these Wenger Rangers with the Val Head logo(and/or Ant) on the handle!

Alright, I am losing my mind here. I just looked at this thread again, and my first post about the subdued items is 5 posts above the last one. I swear it was not there when I posted earlier. Apparently I needed more coffee earlier today, lol.

What about having the option for long sleeve tshirts? Just would like to be able to support TSP during the cooler months also.

Or one of the Leathermans instead ::)
http://www.leatherman.com/ (http://www.leatherman.com/)
This is something we've been considering big time. The problem (right now) is that multitools and SAK type knives cost a LOT to have produced and even more to purchase. If your target audience already has those items, they won't purchase another one, even if it's got the company logo engraved on it. They'd be a lot more likely to purchase 5 of everything else in the store, and save a little money. :)
But maybe a little one (like the leatherman squirt) would be okay. It's totally on my list of "pitch to forum members to see if they bite". :)
-
what about the little bitty keychain multi-tools?
I've seen 'em for 3 or 4 bucks, and they're quite useful.
There's also a company that makes electric marking devices - I saw a fellow that uses them to mark 1911 frames and slides that he does custom work on. "So and So gun works" etc... you just wet the pad with salt water, and flip a switch, and the unit engraves the logo onto your part. The engraver can be used with multiple designs - you apply the mask separately.
-
A couple of the folks mentioned survival-friendly gear, and I couldn't agree more. Marketing for the podcast and the forum are excellent ideas of course, but I personally have a shopping list of gear I'm slowly acquiring. A lot of this can be branded or even modified and sold by the Gear Shop. I would imagine that it's much more challenging to get some of these items made, but if I could get them through the TSP Gear Shop, I'd certainly prefer it!
Leather sheaths come to mind -- there's a group out there that makes high-end aftermarket sheaths for popular knives, adding better attachment and retention options than the factory sheaths, and adding firesteels. If so inclined, you could do something like that, making them to order. If not, I imagine you could source some simple, quality sheaths and stamp or brand them with the appropriate graphics. I purchased a hand-customized knife from a fellow on YouTube who purchases custom-made blades from the Svord company and then adds his own very simple scales and plastic sheaths. I think he buys the blade blanks in sets of 20 or so. I love knowing that it was the labor of love of someone I respect, and it's one of my favorite knives. The manufacturing challenges are (relatively) minor, and stock on hand is kept low.
What about selling non-branded outdoor gear? Another guy I found through YouTube, who was later interviewed on TSP, runs a very interesting online shop, selling gear he would or does use himself, in addition to his own designs. Would it be possible to sell the gear used and trusted by some of the fantastically experienced folks on the forum? This would presumably involve buying in bulk and keeping some stock on hand (and the associated financial investment), but I know I would be fine with a "group buy" type of system, getting enough buyers together for an order of something in particular, but doing it through the Gear Shop so that people I know and respect are earning the profit on it.

I know that its not a product persay, but maybe we look into using items made in the usa for the gear
-
How about Pokerface CDs??
http://www.pokerface.com/ (http://www.pokerface.com/)

I once had some stuff embroidered and once you paid for the design, you could pretty much embroider anything - hats, shirts, bags, etc.
In that vein, I'd think along the lines of a long-sleeved work-shirt (not just t-shirts), maybe a polo shirt (for that slightly more dressed up look than a T), etc.
I also think the silk-screened shopping bag is a good idea (if you eat what you store and store what you eat, odds are you're going to the store from time to time anyway...). There are TONS of these out there, though, so I'm not sure about demand. I'd go with canvas over nylon - JMHO.
Early on Jack challenged listeners to keep a journal of what they eat out of their pantry for a week or two. Maybe a journal/notebook that could perform that function, but also include room for one's inventory of equipment, consumables, skills, etc. Might help some of us organize our thoughts a little better. :)
Here's another vote for the window decal - either the ant (stealthy) or the actual TSP logo (better advertising for Jack, but some might question the OPSEC - kind of like NRA stickers tell folks to follow you to find guns).
Will let the wheels keep turning and see what else I come up with...
-N
-
Nadir, a specialized journal is a great idea! I love it! I wonder how well it would sell, and how inexpensively I could have them produced....Could also do an "ebook" version that allows you to input stuff, like an adobe pdf that allows you to fill it out and save it filled out.... Gonna have to look into this very seriously.
A plain ol' ant window decal is a great idea. I've had SO MANY PEOPLE go, "okay. What is the ant about?" when I wear my hat. I say, "the ant and the grasshopper - you know the story?" and within an hour or so, they want a hat. :D
We looked into the shopping bags, and because we would be purchasing relatively few of them (100 or 200), they would cost US more than they cost you to buy them at the grocery store. I saw that and was like, "nobody's gonna go for this." But if we had canvas bags, with a silkscreened ant on it? How cute would that be? and how appropriate, right?
As far as embroidery goes, the company we went through for the hats treated us SO well, that we'll probably only ever go through them from now on for anything we have produced, clothing-wise. The company we went through for the patches didn't treat us well at all (they charged us twice, then took back one of the charges after a week or so, then sent us receipts like 3 different times, and ... it was just a mess all the way around), so we'll be in the market for another patch company soon.
-
Mash, the colors could be brown for us ants and green for the grasshoppers. That way we know which color to eat first.
Mamabear - only green ones - we're not into cannibalism here at TSP! ;D ;D ;D
SW - How about "karma cards"? I saw a post somewhere this morning and now I can't find it. But what I mean is something you can hand someone that would have TSP podcast information on one side and maybe general survival information on the other? Something small like a business card or playing card size that you could hand out in a store or at your workplace? I tell people about TSP and then I have to find a piece of paper and write it down, etc. for them. Someone posted something about this calling them Karma cards (I think) anyway I think something where you could spread the word would be good.

Anyway check out http://thesurvivalpodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=7006.msg74929#msg74929 (http://thesurvivalpodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=7006.msg74929#msg74929)
it was Jokerswild who had this idea.

I've seen those cards done by the Sierra Club - has the Ten Essentials on one side and some Sierra Club info on the other. Helping the recipient out on the one and pitching them on the other.
The Sierra Club ones were on plastic (not quite as rigid as credit cards - more like milk bottle thickness) and were business card sized.
Interesting idea!
-
Custom playing cards with a TSP logo and URL (and ants, of course) on the back?
A very brief Google search suggests a wholesale cost of about $3 to $5 per deck for a simple 2-color design. Dunno if that would end up too pricey after the Gear Shop's markup, though.
It would be more fun if we could redesign the other side of the cards too, but that would probably get really expensive. The Aces could have ant heads, Kings and Queens should probably be grasshoppers or other such vermin (Down with Kings and Queens!), and I think we already know what the Jack should be. 8)

I think an inventory management software package might be really cool. A lot of stuff is out there that we adapt to prepping needs, or many of us create our own in Excel.
So, either a really kick ass application, or maybe just a very user-friendly Excel template, designed with the Prepper in mind.
You could indicate what your priorities are, and it would pre-fill a bunch of items that are generally thought of as essential for that type of priority. Also fill out qty of people you're prepping for, and your estimated duration of event.
Example: You check the "priorities" section and fill in "TEOTWAWKI". It comes up with all kinds of things, one of which would be heirloom seeds. Now, had you checked off "Short Term Power Failure", heirloom seeds would not be on your list.
You then go in and fill out your inventories based on this, and it displays where you're at vs your goals.
Of course the interface would have to be all tacti-cool so we really feel good about things. :)
It might also help facilitate a common inventory method, which would really help people ascertain where they're at, or where they're at in relation to others (such as comparing notes at a Meet N Greet...). This also means it does a good print-out job.
We gotta have some programmers on the site... 8) ;) 8)
-
We do have some programmers on this site. ;D
You guys have the COOLEST ideas. I don't think an excel sheet will work, because you can make it as user friendly as you want, and some people still won't have excel (I, for example, have open office, and half the time, the macros that are written by my professors to calculate grades in excel, don't work in open office).
It's gotta be a program. Tacticool would be super easy - that's just a matter of graphics, and word choices.
Also - along the same lines - we could do a hard copy version in a book that you can fill out on your own, with formulas for success throughout.
I would give anything to be a hardcore programmer right now. But that's okay. My dad is a code poet. I'll email him right now.
-
It's gotta be a program.
And it's gotta run on Windows, Mac, and Linux at least. (Not to mention the IPhone, MS-DOS, and the Commodore Amiga.)
Interesting idea.

Java Application....would run on nearly any modern OS. A food calculation program would be great!! Something you could enter in your food preps, enter in the number of people....and spits out a number for days of food stored.

It should be able to work for all items, not just food!
I'm going to start a thread later today showing how I'm doing my inventories in Excel. This may be helpful, it may not, but I really like the way it's coming together but a dedicated program would be sweet.

Fantastic! When you get it started, throw a link in this thread so that we know where to go to see it (even for us oldbies, the tsp forum can be big and a little overwhelming at times). :)

I think that decal with the Latin "I think therefore I'm an ant" at the top would be pretty cool - just the right amount of "wink" for those in the know and a conversation starter for others (like the ant hat, IMO).
-N
-
Could we come up with something cool with ANT to look sort of like a tactical badge you know like FBI, ATF, etc.
;D
Perhaps a dual meaning, ant as in be an ant but also a word for each letter,
A - Anticipate
N - ?
T - ?
Could be the start of something kind of cool?
-
ANT
A=Anticipation
N=Nowledge ;D
T=Training
-
ANT
A=Anticipation
N=Nowledge ;D
T=Training
LOL!! I like "Awareness" for the A, myself.
-
How about some DVDs with the podcasts on them? We are up to almost 6.5 gigabytes of Jack talking. These could be 'Collector Editions' with 100 or 200 podcasts per DVD with cool covers (think Star Trek Collectors Editions).
-
A - Awareness,
N - Nonconformity,
T - Transformation
A - Active
N - Nonconformist
T - Troop
A - Anticipate
N - No support (or No handouts, etc)
T - Tomorrow
-
Anticipate
Needs
Today
As in, don't wait until winter is here to prepare. Do it now.
-
A - Awareness,
N - Nonconformity,
T - Transformation
I like that one! We are definitely not conformist around here. The key is unlike the typical angry teenager who is a nonconformist (by looking like all the other nonconformist by the way ???) we only refuse to conform with certain aspects of society. You want us to obey traffic laws fine, etc. But you want us to see government as a savior? Nope! You want us to believe that three days food in a home is enough? Nope! You want us to live a life based on debt? Nope! You want us to believe that food that has a gene from a fish inserted into its genes that kills pests that eat it is "generally recognized as safe"? Fuck No! ;D
Yet this is why I like
A - Awareness,
N - Nonconformity,
T - Transformation
To be a non conforming modern survivalist one must first become aware of ostrich syndrome and face the reality our grandparents knew very well. Further since we don't just sit around wear our hair different and get stoned listening to angry music our nonconformity actually requires a transformation of our lives. Being good anarchists we don't force this change on others we simply live it and in the transformation of our lives we transform the lives of others.
ANT - Viva La Revolution!
-
Yay!!!!! I like that one too. :)
-
The meaning of the letters is totally separate from how they're displayed, be it a euro sticker or a tactical patch. I'm still trying to find out if y'all like the sticker idea. ;D
-
How about something like this?
Could pique someone's interest... they might wonder if they are seeing the vehicle of an Antarctica native...

The sticker idea is okay. But you won't be able to "sell" it to the forum members, if that's what you're asking. Any official gear goes through the Gear Shop. Anything else needs to be run by Jack, TW, and me, and is fine for give-aways, but not fine for profit-making.

That's fine. Not trying to make any money. Was submitting in the hopes that people would like the idea and TSP could make some money.
Similar to these suggestions for patches...

Indeed! And I absolutely love the idea. I just didn't want to "steal" it from you. Because that would be very wrong, and very much exploiting you, and we can't allow that.
I love the patch ideas too, btw.

Please feel free to use those ideas, if you desire. I thought that was the purpose of this thread anyway: to submit ideas for you guys to make cool shit...
Maybe have the patches in more desert-y colors would be good, too.

Hi Sis (u-we-tsi a-ge-hu-tsa) - I had an idea for another t-shirt today while listening to Jack's podcast.
He made the comment: "The #1 Rule of Survival...
...is to Survive"
I thought it would be an awesome quote for a t-shirt with the TSP logo and details on the back or underneath the quote. Anyway it just hit me thought I'd share.
-
Unetsi,
I love it! Will DEFINITELY put it on a shirt.

I second the SkinIt idea.
-
Sis,
been a while since I checked back to this thread - may have already been suggested, but here goes two things...well, not so fast, let me do a lead in:
recently Jack has been talking directly to the many new listeners - this is a good thing, it means the word is spreading and he's addressing their newbie-ness (not that I'm captain accomplishment - just already all matrix "red-pilled" up). Due to this he has to "revisit" topics and re-explain - otherwise there's the chance the new listener may get overwhelmed - we don't want that, we want to help and nurture the little ant-ettes into full growed ANTS! Two topic areas that seem most helpful are the "practicality" of the what if situation and the "application" of your personal preps - the "how far along" you are measuring stick.
By practicality I'm talking directly to the show's by-line and when I illustrate it to friends and family I mean the X/Y scale that measures "Likelihood" of a situation occurring along the X-axis and "Impact" of its occurrence along the Y-axis. I think an excellent "product" would be an online quiz that someone takes where they answer questions about "what if's" along a likert scale (likely, very likely, 100% will happen, unlikely, definitely won't happen" and then answer the same questions regarding impact to your personal life (no impact, minimal, huge, devastating). The topics could/should be clear enough to make the case (pandemic, oil shortage, electric grid failure, death, job loss, alien invasion, killer zombies). The "results" will (should) show that there is a cluster effect and that while some cluster at the major impact, low likelihood (deadly meteor), many will tell the story of very likely and potentially seriously damaging. That leads to the heart of this culture: the prep-nation and the what you should or could be doing about it (granted, this isn't for sale - it's for spreading the word in what could be a very fun and eye-opening way).
The second "product" I'll put in another post since I hate reading long posts and assume others do too.
-
Product two: potentially a "sale" item, or an MSB checklist item, but its a comprehensive list and rack and stack of all things prep. It should be "manipulatable" (my word) so that your personal prepper plan and your personal priorities are captured. I'm building my own excel tracking sheet with my goals for each area: BoB, BoL, BoV, Food production, Food storage, Energy Production etc. (have I mentioned I'm half Italian, half geek?)
Anyway, as I've collected advice and information I have - like most of the community here, taken the great and good and left the not-my-bag and the doesn't apply.
Effectively this product would be a "survey" or "evaluation" a way to grade yourself. Maybe some of the titles here (prepper, survivalist, mentor, etc) could be used to help "grade" how far along someone is on their continuum.
I can go on (I think I've proven that), but throwing out the idea for the team!
-
I second the SkinIt idea.
Noted. :)
Prepper Saint - We've talked in a couple of different threads about both of your ideas. They're AWESOME ideas, they're just very time consuming. I would VERY much like to get both of them off the ground, but it will probably be a while.
-
I second the SkinIt idea.
What SkinIt idea?
-
Since there's a bunch of folks that shoot mosin's, would you guys want to brand a detachable magazine for it?
I'm working on two designs, one that uses the existing floor plate, and another that replaces the whole thing. Either way it's going to be a 5-8 round mag to keep things low-profile, and should run under 30 bucks each in materials for the replacement floor plate.
I'd be happy to split the profits 50/50 with the TSP store.
Can you tell I'm anxious to put my new TIG welder to good use? :-p
-
ha! You crack me up, Orion. :D
As long as we are in California, we will never, ever, ever get into the gun trade. Ever. Including magazines.
Also, regarding profits, it will probably never work like that (splitting profits 50/50). That's all I'll say on that, as it's too complicated to get into it in detail. Just know that it's not a slight to you, or to anybody else. That just isn't how we do things.

t-shirt
Over the left breast,
"I KNOW JACK S..." or "YOU DON'T KNOW JACK S..." (just the last inital & ...)
On the back, the TSP logo with Jack's name over it or under it.
Just an idea.
-
:D hahahahahaha!!!!!!! :D :D :D
That is hilarious!!!!

How about:
-Jack Knows
-Jack Knows Best
Either surrounding the TSP logo over the left breast. These could be put on golf shirts, t-shirts, etc. A big logo on the back would add to printing costs.
(Did I hear the TSP logo was called Val?)
-
If it wouldn't be offensive to AA members, I'm not sure it has already been suggested but how about a...

And even for the ladies, we could do the "Men of TSP" TactiCOOL Searingly Sexy Swimsuit Schedule.

It works out well in our area for some firefighter organizations, so I figure survivalists might be of the above-average-physical-condition type as well... Certainly by summertime twelve of us could have some nice ripped biceps and abs ;-)

...Certainly by summertime twelve of us could have some nice ripped biceps and abs ;-)
I ripped some forearm muscles last year, so yeah, I could probably rip others. Will a photo of me in a hospital gown and Ace bandages be suitable?
Photos of married preppers should be accompanied by a small inset photo of the spouse carrying a large weapon. This will serve to keep minds on prepping. ;D
-
I think we need some TSP 1911 grips... ;)
-
SW, In California I would like to get a long sleeve black tee and a black baseball hat for Paul. I would like to get a black hoody sweatshirt with a zipper for me. Also we need a lot of patches. We ride a motorcycle, so a head bandana would be neat in black also. The demand has to be there in the group to buy it for sure. If you guys had pens with the logo I could buy those to give to friends with website on it, if it is inexpensive enough.
-
The survivalpodcast app. The end of the world- there's an app for that. ;D
Not sure if your programmers have the tools and know how I just watched a special on cnbc on apple apps and it seems pretty in depth.
-
OC Celtic Lass - We have patches! Lots of them! :)

Depends on the angle of the shot. Frontal view would probably be ok. Rear view, not so much. Those hospital gowns don't cover much back there.

I just had an evil idea!!
Think of it as a challenge coin variant, with a PRACTICAL application.
How about a TSP coin based on the stagecoach bar?http://www.teapartysilver.org/other.html (http://www.teapartysilver.org/other.html)
But put the val head and ant, where the stagecoach would be, the TSP web addy on top, and the term "G.O.O.D. Money" on the bottom(G.O.O.D.=Get Out Of Dodge). And on the reverse side, the 1/4 "break down"
Cool yet extremely practical?
Now the real challenge is who will mint it? ???
-
that would be extremely cool! The only think we're waitin' for is the price of silver to go down to a reasonable purchase point (most minting place charge you a looooot extra on top of spot in order to mint each "coin" or "bar").
-
that would be extremely cool! The only think we're waitin' for is the price of silver to go down to a reasonable purchase point (most minting place charge you a looooot extra on top of spot in order to mint each "coin" or "bar").
The making of the die, to mint the coins with, will definately be the fly in the buttermilk!! :-\
-
What about cast "coins" or bars?
IIRC, silver flows very well, so you could have an open face mold and just pour in an ounce of silver at a time, or do a 10 well mold and pour in 10 ounces. Weigh each bar when you cut the sprues, and trim until it's exactly 1 ounce.
Done! ;-)
Silver doesn't oxidize very readily, and until we started burning coal for fuel, it was considered a noble metal - the only atmospheric gas that attacks it is sulfur dioxide, so you won't have to worry terribly much about loss of melt. Won't be "certified" but if you start out with good stuff, and maybe see about getting it "certified" by a third party, it might be a cheaper option. I'm sure we've got enough blacksmiths out here that could work up something if we wanted to go in on a group buy of bulk silver/casting grain and do it.
Crowd-source to the rescue!
-
The question is, can we trust our blacksmiths with all that silver, or will orion go out and use it to buy raffia and taffeta? :D
Just kiddin', brother. That's actually a bad-ass idea. Have you seen the challenge coins yet? Can you match that quality?
-

Well orion blade is right about silver . Like gold, it doesn't oxidize or corrode. It really can't be destroyed, unless you hit it with a 5 kiloton nuke
-
Don't give our boys any ideas. ;)

Sister, my middle NAME is Quality.
Sure, with no effort and very little capital investment!
Unfortunately my first name is Pilesof and my last name is Bullshit.
:P
I'd have to melt down a few silver rounds and give it a shot. The only problem will be the back face, but silver casts like a champ, so I figure with a halfway decent mold it'd do pretty well. The biggest issue is air bubbles, and with a little vacuum pump and a preheated mold, that's not an issue.
What kind of quantity do you anticipate being able to sell?
Assume 80% of the current demand for the coinage?
I foresee making the molds/consulting on having them made and then handing the operation over to someone with more spare time/opportunity for profit, as opposed to becoming a supplier - just 'cause I already have my plate full as hell with some outside obligations.
Maybe over the summer/fall, though, I could make a few hundred in a week or two. (should be able to cast about ten an hour, if you have your shit straight on melt times and mold cooling/preheat times. A toaster oven would preheat the mold adequately, and one of those flamethrower propane torches for killing weeds or heating roofing tar would melt the silver in a graphite crucible - 4 ounce graphite crucibles run about 10 bucks for three at harbor freight btw.
Since it's silver, you could use a stainless steel cup to melt it in, but you might get brazing, so I'd stick with graphite. Might need to passivate (parkerize/hot blue) the steel mold if you get adhesion between the silver and the steel. Maybe even chrome plating - I think the solubility of iron oxide in silver is pathetic, though, so hot blueing would be the best bet, since parkerizing is a phosphate conversion, and phosphor's an awful lot like sulfur in alot of instances.
Dammit don't ask me these questions after I've watched Iron Man... AGAIN...
Who else do you know that can build repulsors out of a few yards of taffeta, a coconut, a pound of nails, and a sheet of paper?
Sincerely,
Raffia Boy
-
I'm not sure if this has been suggested (it's a big thread at this point), but I would personally dig a round or oval sticker with the ant from the hat on it.
Best regards,
Owen

While I almost always find your stuff amusing, this is a product idea thread for the TSP gear shop. People won't spend $70.00 on a fire piston at TSP, let alone however many hundreds of dollars your strange metal suit would cost.
There is no practical purpose for the suit, and honestly, I've said it before, but it never hurts to nudge you gently with the hammer and make it reeeeally clear... This thread is about product ideas for the TSP Gear Shop. You were gettin' just a tad "out there" with your fun ideas, so I good-naturedly removed them.
If you wanna talk about your cool projects, I encourage you to do so. Just let's maybe have you start a thread in the campfire board for it. :)

I was thinking about this a while back and then forgot about it, but the "Famous places you've been" thread made me remember it.
Back in the late 80's, early 90's in Europe, there was a fad with stickers, people would get packs of stickers (usually 5 or 6 inch round or ovals) for a band or a label or even a bar or something (Don't remember much, it was back in my heavy drinking days :) ). and they would put these everywhere, on storefronts, on telephone poles on parking meters. I think it was one of the first runs of what they now call "Viral Marketing".
I'd love to have a pack of stickers, that I could just slap on bulletin boards or notebooks etc, Leave in visible places. (Of course we would all have to be responsible enough not to put them on private property or use them as graffiti.
But I pass out lots of paperwork and a quick little sticker on the cover page would be a good way to introduce or peek the curiosity of the people I deal with.
(I was a mixed grasshopper/ant until I was woken up by a simple mention of the TSP by Kimbertac). So even a simple glance at a sticker might get someone on board, and the more ants we have, the less grasshoppers (mathematically as well as metaphorically LOL).
I build computers and get lots of little "Branding" badges and stickers with the hardware, I'd love to add a little TSP sticker into the mix.
Just an idea. I know the potential for abuse (Like some of the band stickers back in the 80's) could make this a potentially bad idea.
I print my own business cards and am working on a modified business card to hand out for the same thing as the stickers (Similar to whats been done by a few people on the forum). But stickers tend to be a bit more resilient (Don't fall from the hand into the trash quite as easily).
Stickers would just be a convenient extension of the business card idea.
I didn't go back and read the entire thread to see if this was suggested already, so if it has been, I apologize.

Little ant Halloween costumes for the little preppers.
I can picture all the ants scurrying around now.
-
Docwatmo, packs of simple stickers hasn't been mentioned yet. I'll check prices on them asap. I'm betting that they'll be fairly inexpensive to make.
Another thing we are considering is moving just a tad away from vanity gear for a second, and getting bandannas. The bandannas we're considering are special. One would be called the "fire water" bandanna (one side of the bandanna will be imprinted with instructions on how to make a fire with conventional methods, and the other side will be imprinted with how to purify water with conventional methods, and the bandanna would include a ferro rod, magnesium rod, striker, and water purification pills). The other bandanna is along the same lines, with first aid instructions (1. clean the wound, etc) printed on the bandanna.
The point of both bandannas is that they'll be useful in the wilderness for more than one thing.
Obviously, we're already working on bags with John Willis from SOE Tactical.
And we're scouring this thread for ideas that do more than just appease our vanity. We know that t-shirts are a big deal, and we're working on the subdued ant ones, as well as subdued patches, and MSB versions. It's important to us, however, that we start moving into products that you guys (and we) will actually use or want to use out in the field.
-
Awesome Stuff SW. I lover the bandanna idea.
Also along that line, I don't wear bandannas myself, but I would stuff a couple in the first aid kit for making tourniquets or slings so it would still be potentially useful.
How about laminated or waterproof paper versions that can be wrapped around pill bottles or water bottles etc. (I make my own because I have a laminating machine at work, or I just print stuff and put it in Zip locks but they get bulky).
Something that doesn't' take up much space but could be passed out easily to others? (Like the little folding football schedules and such). I do business cards, but they don't last long.
As Preppers, this kind of gear probably isn't much needed since we tend to have the info on hand already (But redundancy never hurts), but something to distribute, that could potentially help someone else (With a link on the bottom to TSP :) ) might be of interest.
Keep it up, lots of great ideas coming out of here.
I do realize that spending money on this kind of stuff to hand out to others may not seem like an economical thing to do, but the way I see it is, the more people around me who are prepared, the more secure I feel, so I preach from the mountaintop in that effort.

Ok.. pretty much anything for my Dogs. Collars, blinky lights, t-shirts...

There is only one SisWolf Ban Hammer. To get it, you have to defeat her.... In a fight to the finish using... chopsticks!
-
No doubt, SW had a great teacher. Trained in the art of Chopstick combat, she parlayed that skill into more potent weapons like the Ban Spoon, then the Ban club and now the Mighty Ban Hammer. :)

or possibly one of your ant designs?

I'm thinking about having branded items that help us do the things that Jack encourages us to do - a kind of reminder of the inspiration while we're doing the liberating thing. For example....
If there were a wood-handled garden trowel with "TSP" and/or the ant engraved in the wood (or screened onto it if cost is a concern), some of us would be reminded of WHY we started growing food rather than strictly grass and ornamentals.
Similarly, if there was perfect kitchen knife for chopping up Biltong - same thing...
It boils down to thinking about what we're encouraged by Jack to do, and what tools we would use to perform those tasks - each one is an opportunity to (a) reinforce Jack's message, and (b) serve as a reminder of how that task is empowering us (and for some, where the inspiration to do it arose).
fwiw,

I received my awesome challenge coin in the mail on Monday... and I had one thought. I know we have talked about the typical "challenge" using the coin in a social situation (if I pull out my challenge coin at the IHOP meet and greet, and someone doesn't have their coin, they buy my coffee), but my husband reminded me that, at least among military folks, if you challenge someone and they meet the challenge with a coin of their own, you buy their coffee (or drink, as the case may be).
Is that the way the TSP coins are supposed to work, too?
Thanks!

That's the way it works with me!
:D ;D
I haven't done it at any of the Meet'n'Greets yet but I should probably start making it a habit. It would help with challenge coin sales in the area and would, at least at first, get me some free coffee!
-
In the immortal words of Homer Simpson; hhhhhhmmmmmmmmm
doughnuts free coffee.
Yes i'm a coffee fiend LOL
Got mine yesterday. Ordered it back when I was rich and overflowing from the tax return and completely forgot about it. They are the BIGGEST, Heaviest and most awsomeest challenge coins I've seen, much bigger than my old military coins. A lot shinny'er too. :)
Got to stamp my initials in it at work on Monday. But i'm thinking i'm going to stamp Oct 12, 2009 on it (as the day I joined the TSP forum officially) as my Wake up date since I don't remmember the date that I first listened to jack or was "Woken up" by Kimbertac.

I'll remember not to give you the challenge at the next DFW M&G (you missed your chance at the last one... I'd have been forced to buy!)
-
I have had the same TSP challenge coin in my pocket with me wherever I go since I received my order in the mail.
I have shown people when the conversation warranted it and, for certain people, it helps reinforce an interest and an intrigue so they are more likely to go visit the TSP site.
I know it helps because I've even had people come back and tell me about how cool it was when they listened to a couple shows at that site I told them about...ya know, the one on the coin that I showed them.

That would be a good size, and perhaps a smaller version proportionately? I'm thinking smaller ones on dowels would be ideal markers for navigating a route to a meeting place as obscure as the one that Shannon located in the Iowa wilderness last September.
-
Did some measuring and Truks' suggested size is more practical. I would like to see a package deal of one large flag 20"x32" and 6 smaller 10"x16" flags that could be, or came, mounted on 1/2" dowels 32" long that could be stuck in the ground. The smaller flag, or both, could be a pennant design too.
-
Random ideas:
Survival Podcast mousepad?
Fridge Magnets?
Pens?
Calender? Maybe the calender could have neat little quotes, facts, or tips throughout. Pictures of gardens or whatever. Big smiling picture of Jack on the front. ;)
I dunno.. I'd use em. Just ordered a TSP sticker to slap on the side of my computer.
-
I suggest 2' x 3' for the flags also.

Just a quick thought because I took mine off and cleaned out the leaves today...
Spare tire covers!
Or maybe just a stencil or vinyl transfer sized for a 14-16" rim?

How about a nice bright little key chain light? has a spot on both sides that you could put the artwork from the challenge coin on. You could call it a challenge flashlight

Maybe I've listened to the "the Revolution is You" one time too many. But has any thought about cammies??
I don't know about any of you, but I'm sick to death of the modern military's "digi-flage" craze!!!

Fellow Survivalists,
I don't know if anyone has suggested this in other threads, but once at a gun show, I met a man who made to order custom-engraved Victorinox Swiss Army Knives, also in a variety of colors besides the trademark red.
A Victorinox Swiss Army Knife would look great with the TSP Logo and Web Site and would be a highly useful product to boot. The more blades and tools, the better (as long as you can still conveniently carry it, of course.)
-
I gave a folding knife with custom engravings to a friend of mine when he deployed to Afghanistan. I think Snug's idea has a lot of merit.
-
DH & I give a 2 thumbs up to the idea of a Swiss Army Knife with TSP Logo - that would be awesome and we'd definitely want at least 2. Something to think about Sis when you feel better.
-
I would also like to purchase a couple of TSP emblazoned Swiss Army Knives if it comes to be....
Pete
-
I like the custom swiss army knife idea and def would be interested in it.
take a look at these lights, they are extremely bright for a keychain light. i have quite a few from these guys, they send thm as gifts in your orders and are appreciated. one of the nice things about it is is it stays on when you squeeze it so you can hang it to see. http://www.batteryjunction.com/titanium-keylight-custom.html (http://www.batteryjunction.com/titanium-keylight-custom.html)

Nadir_E,
Much obliged on the compliment. Swiss Army Knives, Leatherman Tools, and other multi-tools have been a usually daily part of my life since age 9 and I'm a lifelong civilian, so I'm sure for military members, such multi-tools are almost like a bodily appendage. You gave your friend an excellent gift!
:)

I'm in... for at least a half dozen.
Got some sheeple i'm trying to turn into ants.
UGH!!
-
I love the idea of a lanyard. I wear one everyday to display my badge at work. It definitely should have ants and I like the quotes "The Revolution is You" and something Jack said on a past podcast... "Liberty starts in a Garden". They would be great on a t-shirt, too! Thanks.
-
I like the idea of a calender, either a 12 month flip over type with reminders and pictures. Or a desk type daily calender that you rip the pages off each day like the farside calenders with quotes and things you should do to prepare. Lots of possibilities with this one, would be great to give as gifts to get people on board. The story of the any and grasshopper in there somewhere. Jacks principals..etc.
-
I was thinking of a shirt something along this line. TSP logo at the top
Then text "You Don't Have To Be Another Face In The Crowd"
Under the text, a crowd of faces, maybe sheep and ostrich like.
Then one face a little bolder in the crowd.... Ant-like or Val (Maybe with a hoe or trowel held up)
And finally text underneath... "The Revolution Is You"
Just a thought,
any artists out there???

Sis - I think this is an awesome idea for a shirt - could you whip one up in your spare time? ;D I know I want one.
Good idea Kasey - I love it!
See I'm not the only ant who was totally impacted by The Revolution is You episode and we love the new theme song.

Has anybody mentioned a compass yet. I was thinking of an inexpensive one thats metal and engrave the back of it with "The Survival podcast-Helping you find the way" and also engrave the members name on it. I found some on the internet for under a dollar each and a few bucks in engraving fees and it would still come out fairly cheap and be a cool of of a kind item.
-
GREAT shirt idea. Really great. I'll get on it.
I have a variation of that idea. I call it the "Anti-Che" T-shirt!
It's a red Shirt. Instead of a picture of CHe Guivera, with"Viva la Revolution".
It would have a picture of Jack Spirko, holding the trombone squash in each hand(from the YouTube video),And underneath the picture:"THE REVOLUTION IS YOU!"
And on the back of the shirt, you'd have www.thesurvivalpodcast.com (http://www.thesurvivalpodcast.com) !!!
What do you think??

How about some TSP branded flash drives. Don't need 64 Gigs, but around 1 Gig to put copies of documentation packets on.

How about some TSP branded flash drives. Don't need 64 Gigs, but around 1 Gig to put copies of documentation packets on.
Preloaded with all the podcast MP3s to date?
That ought to be in the general vicinity of 10 GB, so you could do 16 GB flash drives and that would still leave a lot of space for people's personal data, or they could unload the podcasts onto their computers and have the whole 16 GB.
-
Howdy Bartsdad!
Super idea! Ever since I seen the TV series Jericho, I've thought that something like a data stick with vital information would be a super addition to any Survivalist's stockpile or BOB. Oh, and 1+ Karma for you!

I was thinking more like blank ones that I could get about a dozen of for a reasonable price.Place them in BOBs, documentation packets, safety deposit box, safe, and keys, for both me and the beautiful bartsmom.
A dozen 16 gigs would be rather expensive, but a dozen 1gig should be reasonable. The novelty of them all being the same would help to id them as documentation files to me.

Update:
I've requested quotes on full color bandannas, and USB card drives (credit card sized - 2 GB). I'm working on a new t-shirt design now. I was messing around last night and drew this:
:D But I don't think that's what you guys were looking for. Maybe I'm just overworked, but I think it's funny. ;D
This is the USB Card Drive logo I've come up with:
I'm waiting for a quote response now for the card drive. You need to know that these will NOT be price competitive with the crappy/cheap USB flash drives you'll get at Wal Mart. They'll be a bit more expensive, but they are waterproof, heat resistant, can be carried in a wallet like a credit card, and of course, they are awesome.
This is the FIRST of a series of bandanna logos we will be doing:
When I get the new shirt logo done (next new shirt will be for MSB members and will ONLY be available on the MSB website after you sign in), I'll post the logo for comments.
So, what are your thoughts about what I've done so far?
-
Really great work SW. I love the backgrounds. Very well done indeed.
-
edit to above - I saw that I only included on "L" in "will" on part of the bandanna. That's been fixed on the actual logo file. Don't let it bug you too much. It won't be like that in the final product. ;)
Doc - Thank you!

revo bandanna second idea:

And #3:
The red line is the fold line on a bandanna. It won't actually be a part of the bandanna. I just wanted to show you guys that the "The revolution is you" and the ant are centered on the forehead.
-
Flat lander!
The head is spheric! Offset your bandanna fold!
Oh.
This is a good product idea. The Gearstapo approves.
Muddyboots
-
Cover it with ants.

-
How much am I supposed to offset it? I've never offset my bandanna fold. Weirdo mountain man.
Here's your ant'anna:
-
Great job, especially on the first two bandannas. Being kind of sissified with insects (except for my bees), I don't know if I could willingly put a giant ant on my head!
Love the "no sheeple". V. funny!
-
I am thinking of a shirt with a pattern similar to Escher’s work in symmetry (http://www.mcescher.com/Gallery/gallery-symmetry.htm) using ants and done in colors that would resemble digital camo. Then on the front the TSP logo with Val in the center of the S. Under that “Helping you live a better life if times get tough, or even if they don’t” and the URL under that in smaller print.
This may be a little too ambitious, I don’t know. The ants would need to be pretty small for it to look like the mental picture I have and I’m not sure how you would get an allover print like that.
Maybe a matching bandana or shemagh.
-

That would be REALLY cool. I don't know that I can do all-over prints like that, but I will see if I can work on something that will at least convey what you're talking about.
-
Love these ideas!
-
One of Escher's paintings is a group of ants walking on a mobius strip.
Here is an animation of it:
I think something like THAT would be cool on a T-shirt with some TSP branding.

Now this is a product I actually need. I've been using a microSD card to carry data, but it's fragile and I had to kludge up a holder which is thick and clunky to carry in a wallet.
...Being kind of sissified with insects (except for my bees), I don't know if I could willingly put a giant ant on my head!...
Maybe we're due for an insect-free product? I know, the very idea is heresy. :D
Just FYI, Escher's actual work is still under copyright.

Sister Wolf, If you go with this one I would like a few.

Yeah, I know. Or I would have guessed. ;)
The revolution stuff is helping us get away from the insects, which is good. We have an ant hat right now, and the t-shirts have an ant on the sleeve.
I haven't decided which bandannas to do, but I'm thinking that I might go with both the "text only" bandanna, and the ant one, so that people have a choice.
And of course, the emergency data card is ant free.
Sister Wolf, If you go with this one I would like a few.
Next shirt is for MSB members only. I will do something like that shirt, maybe with a bunch of white sheep and a black sheep, since we are the black sheep of American society. But it'll have to wait until the MSB members get a little sump'n sump'n for their very own.
-
I suppose an ant free version of my previous suggestion could be done with little Vals but that would look more like the squares used in digi camo instead of the Escher look I was going for.
:-\
-
Just to complicate things, how about combining the ant and TSP logos, something like this:
Hopefully you get the idea. My MS Paint-Fu is somewhat lacking. BTW: My wife saw me working on this and asked, "So, are they exterminators?"
-
You shouild consider doing test runs of products via cafepress.com ... or if you have an odd-ball t-shirt idea that you don't think will sell well enough as an "in stock" product but maybe 50 people would buy it... you can sell it for free there.
Plus I've been waiting to get my TSP thong :D
(that is a big "JUST KIDDING")
Seriously though you can make sigg bottles on there and lots of other cool stuff.
-
by the way.. as a fan of understated...
black shirt .. white letters "the revolution is you"
url in small font below it
nothing else on the shirt
that would be money in the bank
-
saw a zippo mentioned. good idea
what about a windproof / waterproof. torch like lighter thing?
-
Great ideas!
Loving the simple white on black "The revolution is You" t-shirt idea ladieu. I think that is definitely money in the bank. It's also understated yet thought provoking!
footpad: the zippo is cool - I haven't seen anyone else suggest that yet.
How about baseball hats with "The revolution is you"? White on black again for impact.
-
I would like to see more of a selection of patches in the gear shop. maybe some OD green and black , or other colors for wearing on BDU's or on bags.

New item: a firesteel/striker combo, have the striker embossed/impressed (?) with the tsp brand name.
Like this:

from: http://firesteel.com/ (http://firesteel.com/)
Just get the firesteel drilled so they can be tired together.

On the shemaghs - TAD Gear (who specialize in very small runs of high quality stuff) made one with skull & crossbones that was well received. (http://www.aacblog.com/?p=1413 (http://www.aacblog.com/?p=1413)) Others have done custom work as well (Tactical Tailor's - http://soldiersystems.net/blog1/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/tactical_tailor_shemagh.jpg (http://soldiersystems.net/blog1/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/tactical_tailor_shemagh.jpg)).
I'd definitely find a way to get the TSP logo and possibly even "The Revolution Is You" in there in addition to the ants.
Sometime down the road, when the money is just rolling in and there's time to do other stuff, give a thought to doing some clothing in "technical fabrics" (think under-armor and lots of the stuff made by REI for travel/camping/etc. - much better than cotton in many ways).

I have a good friend who runs a small screen printing business out of his basement... he does technical shirts for my mountain bike club and also for local volleyball teams, also happens to be a good friend. PM me if interested.

With the success of the OHT-SAK. For the next knife, how about one of the Leatherman c33/c55 series of knives which have a the carabiner/bottleopener tool as standard. As shown in this c33 YouTube.

I had one of the Previous BX models. 55 BX with bit kit, BIG, HEAVY and Awesome. I lost it after only having it for a couple of weeks unfortunately.
They are great knives.

After hearing Jack talk about wearable wealth I ended up with a couple silver bracelets (http://www.amazon.com/Sterling-Silver-Bracelet-diameter-around/dp/B004AG4DUI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=jewelry&qid=1290447856&sr=8-1) and a necklace. After much bargain hunting and coupon use of course.
Driving around yesterday the sun glinting off my bracelet got me smiling and thinking "living that better life if times get tough, or even if they don't".
Thinking about get that engraved on it, which made me think it might be a possible gear shop item. Not sure if the logistics or price of something like this could work, just a thought.
