Title: SECTER1's 2012 Season
Post by: SECTER1 on February 21, 2012, 09:13:54 PM
Gonna get off to a good start this year..Made me a DIY lighting system for seed starting in doors.  The past two years I left them out side and in too much light too many times and had a lot of die offs..Not this year.

My first attempt at soil cubes (Thanks Clayton)..  Had no clue how much more soil they require then the standard pea pots..  But once you make a couple cubes you know right off the bat that they are going to work way better..

I just got the seed cube makers and so far really like them.  Seem to retain moisture well.

Yeah..those cubes are heavy.  One recommendation for someone considering...get sturdy trays..  I got the flimsy ones and if you need to move them and they are a little low on moisture I can see these things crumbling easier because of the flex in the tray..

Nice.

I have been having slow growth in my beds and figured it was low on nutrients..  I really stepped up with organic food, fish emulsion and rock dust..seeing good results over the past couple days.

compost from my local place..I have had good luck with it over the past couple years..I also added some worm castings and some chicken manure and Azomite rock dust..  I don't think I added enough though.

I like it.

It is seriously over engineered, just they way I like it lol.

Actually it looks very well thought out and I based the top edge of a rice paddy box/bed I put in this week on that.

I like them a lot as well. Those raised bed boxes really make my efforts look pretty pathetic.

Awesome!

My yield this year is a little lacking. The green beans went wild and then died off in late June when it got hot. My pepper plants are so-so and the 2nd year blackberry bush only produced a few berries that I got before the birds.

But, this year is better than last year, so that is progress!!
