I thought it might be nice if we had a place to compile & share our own favorite frequencies, times, clubs & the like. Use this board to do that.

We can also use this board for hashing out our own frequencies to use. It'd be nice to be able to travel & talk to other TSP hams en-route to wherever we're going.

I'll be moving threads to their appropriate boards over the next couple of days to make some of this stuff easier for us to find.

Be patient please, I'm doing this with what little free time I have.

If you have suggestions then feel free to drop them into this thread, or shoot me a PM.

OK, I'll start.

These 2m frequencies are for the Augusta, GA/Aiken, SC area.

145.490- Augusta Radio Club (great coverage)
146.730- N. Augusta Radio Club (solar powered)
145.350-(156.7) Aiken
145.450-(123.0) Savannah River Site

I haven't used the 70cm channels around here to find out what works well.

FYI, MURS ch 1 gets interference (like someone has a radio keyed, but no sound) pretty much constantly in our area. I don't know why.

While in south central Iowa try 146.835 tone 123.0 usually linked to the Sheldalh system that covers Iowa from north to south

Well I live in Alaska and use the 20meter, 80 meter frequencies of 14.292 USB , and 3.920 LSB, and 3.933 LSB
the first is in the Am at 8:30 Alaska time on 14.292 and is the Atlantic Pacific Traffic Net . The rest are local Alaska Nets. The Snipers Net is at 6 PM and is on 3.920 Alaska time, and the last is @ 9 PM on 3.933 Alaska time

Hello everyone.
Forgive my ignorance as I know nothing of HAM but I had a question. Is it possible to set up a channel for all tsp listeners so if the SHTF we can all communicate with each other? I would think that if zombies do attack, we already have one of the most prepared communities on the planet and we could help each other over the air waves. Just a thought. Would love to hear if this is possible and how we could set it up. Thanks.

If you are not a HAM, there are a few options.

1) FRS frequencies. These are on all of the Motorola 'talkabout' radios. There are no license requirements for this band, and there are hundreds, if not thousands of these radios on the market that can be had cheaply. Typical range will be 2 miles or less.

2) GMRS frequencies. Most radios that do FRS will also do GMRS. Technically, you are supposed to have a special license (you only apply, and pay a fee/tax...no knowledge test), but the reality is that people are using this band everyday with no license, and there is no enforcement effort. Range is the same as with FRS, but there are GMRS repeaters that can extend your range, but you will DEFINITELY need the license if you want to join a club and get access to those repeaters.

3) CB frequencies. These are littered with trash talk, but should not be ignored as a viable communication channel in an emergency.

Many HAMs monitor GMRS as well. Some monitor FRS. Few monitor CB. In a SHTF scenario, I would imagine all three options will be monitored more actively.

An offline listing of pre-arranged frequencies for 20-40-80 would be a good idea, along with contact times.

One person manages the list and pm's the list to those who provide a ham call sign.

This would provide some minimal comsec.

Recently got my Tech license. I was really hoping to see a more comprehensive list of frequencies! I do think it's great we are listing frequencies for different areas, but without them somewhat consolidated it'll be harder to find each other in an emergency. Has anyone thought about a longer range CW over HF solution to add to the mix?

I would suggest 60M. It will work for NVIS and Midrange communications. You just have to change antennas. A low dipole for NVIS will work out to 300 miles or so with no blind spots. My antenna for this is only 7 feet off the ground. A higher dipole or inverted "L" antenna will work 300 to 1200 miles with little trouble, and all that with 100W ERP. Not bad. It's one of our favorite bands for MARS. Of course if you want more distance you go up in frequency, but you get more and bigger blind spots due to skip. In any case think how you would run such a net. This can make or brake you. Mark/WQ8S
