For those who haven't seen this yet, it's real. Shooting Illustrated and American Rifleman both have it.

Epic.

Why the Hell would someone covered in ice drink his own urine? Fails on a logical thought process even if urine drinking was a good idea (it's not).

The dumbest thing I've seen in a while. Who are they advertising to?

Weird ad for a weird product from a weird company.  Wonder how many years the pee drinkers will have to wait before they can actually buy one?

Yeah, that doesn't sound right to me.  My understanding has been that the "water" in urine is to allow the salts to flow out of the body.  It isn't that the body has discarded that water, it needs to supply the water to allow the salts to flow.  If I hold it, my body won't have to supply more water to wash out the salts in a little while.  If the body doesn't reabsorb the water, why is your morning urine so much more concentrated than in the middle of the day when you are drinking plenty of water and well hydrated?

P.S. if I'm not careful, I'll have to split this thread to have the ad thread and a "drinking your own urine" thread.

Yeah, Kel-Tec has a history of designing a cool looking product and not manufacturing enough to meet demand.  Intentional shortage of product?

To be honest I think they are just more innovative than they are an efficient company.  Their designs also tend to be buggy.   If you could pair their innovation with the horse power of a smith and Wesson or Ruger thet would be dangerous.

We have several Kel Tec handguns, and while they aren't the finest handguns in the world they do work and they weren't that expensive. Beyond that I don't really care anything for Kel Tec. They chronically fail to meet demand while continuing to bring out innovative or interesting new firearms. The latter part is good, the former is not. The marketing isn't all that impressive either, and this bit is.....nothing I would want associated with a product I made.

As a manufacturer, I would rather sell 100% of my product, even if it leaves a demand, than 50%.

Look at AR's right now.  I see Colts selling for $700, others selling for less.  Even top-tier manufacturers are being EXTREMELY careful about production. Some of the extreme-quality names out there are micromanaging every dollar going so far as to work only 4 or 4.5 out of a standard 5-day production schedule.  Having stock is like having deadweight on you while running a marathon.

If I can do a project and sell 100% of the product, then I know what I have to work with to apply to another project as well as pay overhead.

In KelTec's case, however, I hope they apply some of that money to quality control as well as R&D.

If that rifle has Bear Gryll's name on it, however, I won't touch it.  Period.  I'm happy that he does charity work for kids. His antics and sensationalism contributes to dangerous ideas and concepts within the Preparedness community.  Just watch the video of him catching a train for his "survival" show.

Chronic failure to meet demand leads to people like me who eventually end up saying, "Yeah, that's neat. I might buy one used in a few years".  No profit for the company in demand that isn't met.
