Someone just gave me a 36# recurve bow

Tactical Badger:
Never, never, never, never dry fire a bow!!  Ever!!!  Great advice.

Finding the right spine for the arrows can be a little tricky.  If you have a traditional archery shop local to you, they might make you up a dozen arrows of various spine for you to test.  They should at least be able to get you in the ballpark though.

If you don't have anyone local give Ted a call at Raptor Archery.  He's always been very helpful when I had questions.  He was kind enough to sell me a dozen cedar shafts of various weights to try in the bow I made.

And yeah, once you hit the woods with a traditional bow, a compound is going to feel really clumbsy and awkward.
