A policeman was shot and a man took hostages at a supermarket in two separate incidents in the same area of southwest France on Friday.
The policeman was shot in the town of Carcassonne, while a gunman fired shots during a hostage-taking Friday morning at a supermarket in the town of Trebes 15 minutes' drive away.
The man "entered the Super U supermarket at around 11.15 am and shots were heard," a source said of the Trebes incident. Local authorities tweeted that the area was out-of-bounds to the public.
ISIS claims responsibility for hostage-taking in French city of Trebes. Reports of up to 40 people in dupermarket, but not confirmed.

According to french police, at least two people were killed, and dozens wounded in the supermarket attack, when a gunman shot at police and took hostages in a supermarket in southwest France Friday, according to French officials. The hostage-taker has asked for the release of Nov. 2015 Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam.

A police officer who swapped places with a female hostage during an attack by an ISIS supporter on a supermarket in southern France has died of his wounds, French authorities said.
Lt. Col. Arnaud Beltrame, 45, was shot in the neck Friday after offering to take the place of a woman in an gunman's assault on the Super U supermarket in Trèbes.
