Bin Laden's plan for 'global fireball'
« on: October 21, 2008, 03:35:51 PM »
From WorldNetDaily http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=78573

"Documents recovered from a remote area along the Pakistan border have revealed that Osama bin Laden wants al-Qaida to launch a "global fireball" by lighting forest fires in Europe, the United States, Australia and South America, according to a report from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin...."

If accurate (and if bin Laden can pull it off), this would argue for preparation against forest fire (I guess sand bags, masks, water, evac plans, fire extinguishers, etc.) for those in or near forests.

For others, it would argue for stockpiling lumber as the price would skyrocket in this case (though it would increase your risk of "hoarding" and the BS that goes with that).

Back when Osama Bin Laden was our best bud because he was fighting the Soviets he said that his greatest goal was to get the United States involved in a land war in a muslim country.  He said it would destroy the U.S. financially, just like it did the Soviets.

His plan is succeeding wonderfully.

Yes, he's done a good job on that score.

Seriously, tho....how many fires would it take to cause that much of a problem.  1 per county, set in the early morning would have 90% of the FD's tied up in a matter of hours.  Half a gallon of kero or diesel, pump sprayer, cigarette lighter.....drive, half a gallon of kero or diesel, pump sprayer, cigarette lighter.....repeat, repeat, repeat.   The fact that we don't clean up our national forests like we used to, can't do preventative burns cause of the tree huggers, and the huge lack of funding for firefighting in those areas......it's a wonder why someone hadn't tried it before.

Oh, that's right, we hadn't paid anyone to do it yet.

Ever since the 9/11 attacks, and the annual news coverage of major wildfires, I have wondered why terrorists hadn't engaged in starting fires. The impact would be high profile and expensive. Two things that they are looking for.
For that matter, I have been surprised (pleasantly) that there haven't been nuisance attacks against the power grid. Substations and
High Tension lines always seemed like soft targets.
