Found this in a search of the Internet.  Haven't had a chance to try it yet but looks like it could work in a pinch.

Good posting.  That was very cool.  I watched a video a couple weeks ago that showed how to take the worn out batteries in a cordless drill battery pack and soldier in replacements at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a new power back.

Pokethis:
looks dangerous.

you can use motors as generators as they are basically the same just optimised for one role rather than another.  YOU SHOULD NEVER TRY AND RECHARGE NON RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES. VERY DANGEROUS!!

Problem is, I've been searching everywhere for a crank or manual type charger to recharge rechargeable batteries (and no, one should NEVER attempt to recharge regular batteries).  Sure there are lots of solar charging systems out there, but let's face it, the sun doesn't always shine, especially up here in Illinois where you rarely see it at all from November to March.  Has anyone ever seen a manual or crank style battery recharging system?  It would especially useful if it could handle not only AA but also C and D rechargeable batteries.
