Bug out vehicle gear

<< < (3/8) > >>

Beetle:
Yea it's a little overkill. I got a new truck and I am not putting a canopy on it so I was gonna do a tool box and re-think my gear.

creuzerm:
2 lanterns? You ever use both of them at the same time? I have a magnet mount headlamp on a 12 foot cord. That has been sufficient for me so far.

I carry a fire hatchet instead of the chain saw, it's smaller and uses less gas. :)

Does the milk crate do a good job of protecting that blue water jug? I had one split open on me the first time I used it and drained all 7 gallons of water into the seat of my year old vehicle. Needless to say, I am less then happy with that product.
I got a 2.5 gallon jug of bottled water from the store. That lasted a month, and it has slid around enough that I noticed that it's leaking now too. Mind you, I walk to work so I have driven my vehicle about 3k miles so far this year. Not a good track record for that container.

I am about to see if one of those blue water cooler jugs will fit into a 5 gallon bucket. That is just a really inconvenient shape for me though. Hard to use and hard to store.

I prefer to carry distilled water in my vehicle for battery top-offs and radiator fills. I have actually had to use my water to top off a radiator on a tow truck that was picking up my car due to a busted timing belt.

Anybody find something that works well for distilled water in a vehicle? It's actually harder now that I have a Ford Escape then it was with my old Ford Escort.

You just can't hide anything in an SUV like you can in a trunk of a car. Long rides, people are turned around rummaging through your stuff. I am half tempted to keep a LARGE box of condoms pretty shallow so they find it quickly and stop out of embarrassment.

Beetle:
Actually the milk crate really does a great job protecting it, I really abuse it (no leaks).
Chainsaw has a 30in. bar and most of the time it's not enough. Got really big trees in Oregon. It would take a month with an axe to cut them.
What can I say I love Coleman never can have to many lanterns, gets dark in them thar Mountains.
I am a Deputy and we have a ton of Search and Rescue missions. Every time we finished a search I would think to myself, it sure would be nice to have XYZ. So it just kept growing to where I had almost every situation covered. I am all about comfort so a lot of it is for that.
I got some more pictures, but I gotta get my daughter to post em. Not to computer Savvy...
My wife has a Toyota Tacoma and I have stuffed the little compartments in it with a suprising amount of gear, Maybe your car has the compartments.
It is sad we had a death of an out of stater who got caught in a mountain pass, I hate to criticize but I don't think they were properly prepared.http://www.co.klamath.or.us/sheriff.html Follow the link to read about it. But your chances are better with some gear than not, so try and get that car loaded up....Good luck P.S. a good 2 meter ham radio is a MUST in my book. They had a cell phone with them that turned out to be useless...

Lot of stuff you have.  No doubt, youre well prepared.  My question is what kind of truck do you pack this stuff in? I imagine it takes up alot of room, so is this a dedicated bug out truck, or is it a daily driver, and if so, do you have to unpack this stuff when you need to haul things?

But I figure if I could be with my truck I could be really comfy when the you know what hit the fan. Ill try and get a list but its a lot of stuff.
