Just noticed in the walmart hunting section they are now carrying these. I was a bit surprised.

From what I read, these are apparently a cheaper Chinese version. Not necessarily a "knock-off", but a cheaper quality.

They are. I got one. It's not a good knife. It won't take or hold an edge for anything. And, the little tiny ball bearing in the lock fell out the first day I got it.

A Columbia River Knife M-16 half serrated is my every day pocket carry knife. It is a very good knife, sharp, balanced, and lighting fast to open with one hand.

I have a CRKT M16 EDC with the straight edge, non tanto. Love that blade. $15 off Ebay. Opens with one hand, great EDC knife.

I went to Wal-Mart to look at the CRKT folder because someone did a review on another forum. It was much smaller than I thought and I didn't care for how it felt in my hand.

I ended up buying a Gerber Folder while I was there. I've carried it for over a year now. Good knife.

I once owned a CRKT M18 non-serrated folder. It was without a doubt the best folder knife I ever had. I ended up giving it to an ex RPF soldier in Rwanda. It made his day.

I couldn't find another M18 when I got back to the states. I now carry a gerber half serrated knife. I've had it for over a year, but it doesn't hold a candle to the old CRKT.

Anybody know where to get another M18?

i've bought 5 M16 Z's so far for pass outs to relatives.

approx 25$ each for full size (3.5 inch spear point half serrated)..

i'll probably buy more. Sixth finger..

My daily carry is an M16 non serrated, one of the best knives I have ever owned. The double locking mechanism is great, it will NOT try to fold under use. Hard enough to hold an edge, but soft enough to be easily sharpened.

I have a large collection of knives, when you need one, nothing else will do the job!

I bought an M16 CRKT a few months ago. At first it sharpend well, and preformed better than most knives I've owned. After a few weeks, the pocket clip broke off, and the blade quit taking an edge. I'm very good at knife shaprening and I can honestly say I've never seen a knife that just refused to sharpen well after a few sharpenings. I'm a firefighter, so I use my knives hard, but I do not use them for anything they're not designed to do.

I've given my CRKT away and went back to carying Kershaw's. I've owned several kershaw's and they've never let me down.

I just bought another M16-01Z today, as a back up. The only problem I have had with them is the belt clip coming loose, I always take them off and put red locktite on the screws, solves the problems. That seems to be a problem with all folders that have belt clips held on with screws, at least to me....but them, I tend to be tough on equipment!

The thread compound is a great idea. I have the same problem.
This is one of the reasons I'm kind of migrating to fixed blade. However, I will probably always have a folder around.

Just wanted to add my two pennies (once again) here. I have a CRKT M16-01K that I absolutely love. It has been the best knife that I have ever owned! It has held an edge from the factory longer than any other knife I have ever purchased.

I have an M16-14 and I love it. Outstanding blade, great heft and the locking mechanism seems to be very durable and reliable. You can slice a steak with it, or hack down a sapling.

They are indeed cheaper quality (the WalMart versions) Dan. I'm an avid knife "watcher" on eBay and when I saw them in my very own backyard WalMart, I bought 2 of the 10Z? models for me and my daughter. Her's the clip kept unscrewing, mine the lock wouldn't. Took those back and got two more, finish on one practically rubbed off in a week of pocket use, and the other had a misalignment in the hinge pin that let the tip of the blade protrude enough it would catch on your clothing (or flesh). Got my money back and I'm still looking for the "right" one on eBay.

I totally stand behind CRKT stuff when its genuine. Perhaps we should all send them an email telling them that selling their name to the "knock off" knife manufacturers to make a quick buck through the discount chain is hurting their brand and reputation.

I bought a crkt guppie a few months ago, I love it and have been tough on it, working on things from the water heater, to changing out my thermostat on my car.

CRKT, GERBER, BENCHMADE...
All from Oregon, as am I.
I own several versions of all three, never bought from wally world, always from AAFES or direct web sales from the manufacturer.
It really pisses me off to hear crkt sold naming rights to some chinese joint which has made inferior products.
I love my M-16 Tanto in desert finish, flicks open like a champ, super stable lock, nice edge.
I don't know guys, it just really pisses me off to hear this news.

I have the exact opposite experience with the CRKT knives from Walmart. I have the M16-10KZ and the M16-13Z....both have kept their edge quite well. Both have worked well and I have only ever had to replace the pocket clip on each to my not paying attention.

However, I mo longer will buy knives at Walmart because of the fact that they cheap knock offs (essentially, this is what they are, at least most are). I have started buying Kershaw and I haven't looked back yet...and this is after 4 of them.

I also own a Case knife (I live about 45 minutes away from where they are made).

I got a M18-14 for christmas from Cabelas. It is an awesome blade, although I wanted the 16. I have been carrying it everyday since and its razor sharp. It does say Taiwan on the blade tho, so will see what happens when I need to sharpen it.

I have a Kershaw Blur. (Assisted opening folder) It is an awesome knife. I carry it with me always. A year ago I broke the blade tip off. I took it to Kershaw (near to me) and they replaced the blade for free as I waited. Can't beat that!!! I have several knives and this one is by far my favorite! I even bought it at WalMart!!!!

I noticed last week that walmart is noe carrying even kershaw knives but it does say they are made in the USA on the front of the package. I have also seen many gerber knives that are made in taiwan and china. Have older gerber multi-tool and need to send it off for repairs but am afraid I will get a replacement one that is not of the same quality.

I noticed that as well. However, most of the knives on the placard showing what they sell were marked as Discontinued. I think they're just getting out of knives altogether in the manner they used to. I'm almost willing to bet the same is true of ammunition...

This is just part of the disturbing trend of quality manufacturers outsourcing to China. It's pretty more and more difficult to even figure out where a specific brand's knives are being made. Chinese Benchmade's? What is up with that? But they're out there on the market. I wish at least one of the bigger knife makers would stick to their principles and not have cheap copies made overseas. I've all but quit knife shopping online because no one will tell ou where they are made.

Now you have to look at the box, blade or packaging to even be able to tell where it is made. What a shame.
