When I was a teenager, and did stupid stuff, we would fill them with gunpowder and top it off with a little cannon fuse.  We would also seal the hole with wax.  Not very safe but I was impressed with the bang.

We should have a thread called "stupid stuff that I did as a teenager that I wouldn't do now.  The Rambo movie where he had the exploding arrows was a bad influence on me.  A hollow aluminum arrow could be used in the same way.  My Dad shot black powder rifles and it wasn't hard to get power to do some experiments.  I am really glad that I still have all of my fingers and didn't get hurt playing with that stuff.

As a kid, I figured out that those model rocket engines (and their little launch kits) strapped to a little cylindrical metal container filled with black powder was a great way to "soften up" tree stumps (or just about anything, really) but it took a stronger battery, thicker wire, and a lot more of it.

 :-\

Anyone considering this should visit a burn ward at a major metropolitan hospital first.

(Don't do it. Don't even think it!)

Like most of us, I did some really stupid stuff too as a kid and it is a wonder that I am not dead, crippled, or in jail.

I wouldn't advise anyone to make the aforementioned devices commonly referred to as "crickets". A local man here is going to the federal pen (BTW, he's already a convicted felon-murder) for having a number of these in his possession and setting off a few. It could really put a damper on your preps, etc.

Yep. This was thirty years ago when I did this.

It was a little different world, or so it seems.
