How to build a wind generator

<< < (2/2)

Pukwudji:
I'm in the beginning stages of gathering parts to build a wind turbine.  In all my reading I like the ideas at thebackshed.com.  Another really good site is http://www.yourgreendream.com/.  They talk about Fisher & Paykel washing machine motors and they really sound like the ideal wind turbine motors.  As the US doesn't get a lot of these it has been found that similar (if not better) motors can be found on the Whirlpool Cabrio top-load washers and newer LG front-load washers.

I also like the plans I've seen on making a simple set of blades out of 8" sch80 PVC pipe.  Looks simple and while it may not be as efficient as engineer designed, store bought blades, you could afford to build two windmills with these for the price of one set of the perfect blades and be well ahead of the game.
