Economy: Four Quarters Of Contraction Expected

November 25, 2008 | 2248 GMT

The United States and the eurozone are expected to undergo four consecutive quarters of contraction, lasting into the middle of 2009, the Financial Times reported Nov. 25, citing the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Developmentā€™s (OECD) Economic Outlook report. Many OECD countries are about to enter a recession of a severity not seen since the early 1980s, the report says. Unemployment in those countries could jump to 8 million in the next two years, but inflation is likely to clear in all OECD economies, and some have a small risk of deflation.
