2½ years ago, Sister Wolf set up a donations page here, and asked you all to consider sending a few bucks to the admins.  I told her it would never work.  To my surprise, I was wrong!  I want to thank all of you who sent us gifts -- it was much appreciated, and made us feel pretty good.

In the past, the moderators received most of the forum's advertising revenue, and the admins got a smaller portion plus all of the donations.  This year, we're doing things a bit differently.

Starting 1/1/14, your donations will be shared between all the moderators and admins.

Ad revenue will also be shared, so if you're planning to order something from Amazon, please consider using the search tool or link from one of our Amazon ads.  If you can't see the ads due to ad-blocker software, here's a link for you: http://www.amazon.com/ref=as_li_wdgt_ex?&linkCode=wsw&tag=thesurpodfor-20.  It doesn't cost you anything extra, and we get a small percentage of your purchase price.  EDIT: We don't do Amazon anymore.

We're also looking for some forum sponsors (for those banner ads up at the top of every page).  If you're interested in advertising your product or website, or you know someone who might be, please check out this link.

Just bought a Father's Day gift for my husband on Amazon and remembered reading this a while back so I used the link to do my order.  If you are going to order something for Father's Day, show the admins/mods some love by ordering through their link!

Um, actually, we dropped the Amazon ads on the forum back in February, because they were causing freezeups and very slow page-loads.  (And not bringing in much money.)  I forgot that I'd mentioned Amazon in this thread.

I need to check on the status of that Amazon account (one of the other moderators is handling it).  I'll post here when we get it figured out.

Belated thanks to all of you who have thrown some money at the mods and admins over the past year.

I just squashed a minor bug.  If you've donated since our big May 15th software upgrade, rest assured we did receive it -- it just wasn't being logged here properly.  I've now fixed that and corrected the log.

I can see how that might end up getting used against some of the admins/mods. Reposting to other sites..... Call it the "blackmail option" if we don't join?

I don't think the other sites would appreciate you wrecking their membership after the members all simultaneously throw their monitors out their windows. That could really backfire.

I recall we discussed that a few years ago, but we didn't come up with any good ideas.  (And there's a lot to be said for leaving it as a 100% free forum.)

I think the most common premium things I see in other forums are:

Larger avatar size
More PM space (although I think that's unlimited right now)
Special flair

It's not a ton of stuff but I know some people dig it. Also I wonder how many people never see the banner for donating since a lot of users run adblockers. I specifically turn my adblocker off for this site, but many probably don't.

Adblockers will probably have no effect on the ads we run here, since they come directly from the TSP server.

Like that (if you know HTML).  It's just an image with a link, so adblockers have no easy way to distinguish it from any other image with a link.

In olden days when we ran Google and Amazon ads, those could be blocked.  But Google dumped us for being too evil, and Amazon slowed our site way down and only earned us a few bucks.
