9 Cool Catalogs for Permaculture

When you order from Richter's, order by phone...their website has a regrettable tendency to screw up online orders...and anybody worried about their herbal medicine cabinet, they sell poppy seeds...the real kind. Mine showed up today. Can't wait til next spring.  ;)  Hpoefully, they'll grow in my greenhouse, and I won't kill them like I've killed so much other stuff.

Thanks for the links, I'm going to order some catalogs.  However, I would be careful with RainTree.  I bought two trees from them and they both died (my usual failure rate with trees is only about 10 or 20 percent).  Here are some other complaints:  http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/c/105/

Also, I tend to agree with Steve Soloman (gardening when it counts) that buying from a company in your climate zone makes sense.  See page 111 of

It looks like all the negative comments come from people that ordered over the phone.  I ordered online and had no problems. My two apple trees seem fine. I wish they were a little taller, but all in due time.

They have a return policy. If your trees died they will replace them. However, I'd try to email them.  Apparently, they don't use phones well.

I can highly recommend Miller Nurseries. Been buying fruit trees from them for a number of years. Every time I take one out of the shipping container I am always pleased by its size and condition. I've even had quite a few that were pulled from the container with a full compliment of flowers on them.

I would like to add this particular site, Oikos Tree Cops (link to follow).  I have visited the nursery several times (MI) and love what they do.  Great site for Permaculture and edible forest gardens.  Focus on trees and other various perennials.
