Obverse looks good. How about and ant eating a grasshopper on the reverse.
Looks pretty cool!
Missing an apostrophe in "DON'T".
Can you put thesurvivalpodcast.com somewhere on the coin?
nah - I am liking the ant idea. That was the symbol of the show for a long time on this forum. the ant. :)
Apostraphes are no-nos on coins this size when there is color filling involved. Doesn't turn out well at all - or so our coin guy says.
Aha -- so that really is going to be filled in black like it looks in your picture. Neato!
I'd be more apt to buy it if it was silver in the $25 price range, maybe $30. $15 just seems a little steep to me for a non precious metal coin, but I'm sure it's expensive to get something like that made so I'm just giving you my opinion. Looks very nice though.
Okay, I do remember wooden nickels.
I have a question though. What is a "challenge coin"?
The black parts will not be black - they'll be raised metal.
Will the coins be thick enough to possibly stamp the edge of the coin?
I'm not sure if I would pay for silver since it's not going to be widely recognized.
madcap - they would use the same die for both coins, but it won't look the same (because the silver coins won't have color added to them). Also, the option may be there eventually, but not right off the bat. 3 people telling me that they might be up for "a" silver coin doesn't justify the expense that it would be to make 50 or 100 (or more), when you consider that a hundred (or more) people said that they wanted t-shirts, and the t-shirts are not selling. At all.
Do what you think is right, and please do not misinterpret my chiming in trying to be helpful, with second guessing you, nor a lack of gratitude and appreciation for the incredible amount of effort you put into this initiative (amongst your many others here!)
Heck no, I don't see anything you say as a lack of gratitude, or whatever.
I guess I was just kind of being irritated that so few people are buying tees. But maybe they'll buy the MSB tees. They seem to like those more anyhow. Maybe if I put an ant on them, more people will fall in love. :D
As for the silver coins - I REALLY want to do this. REALLY. Let's see how the challenge coins do, and if they work out, then after a few weeks, I'll put an order in for silver coins. Sound fair?

I would, however, like to offer at some point to cast an oversized version for you. Since it's already your artwork, it would be simple as hell to do a transparency transfer to wax, carve it out by hand, and cast a big version of the medallion if y'all ever do an awards thing like for dirt time or something. I'm still trying to build my portfolio, so something pretty (done at metal cost) on my website is worth more than 80 bucks in my pocket for an hour's worth of work. My buddy and I have some experience with plating, so it would be pretty simple to do gold/silver/bronze too!
I'll probably order a couple at that price when you post the final design.
I'll keep one and put one in a level five geocache.
;D
Have you thought about plastic poker chips imprinted with the same or similar design?
I'm thinking that would be a KICK ASS giveaway item that we could order five or ten of each, and pass out at events/functions when we run into someone that is interested in prepping.
Also, along the same lines, what would the rules be about having some vistaprint cards printed up as giveaways?
Think y'all could toss together an approved design with the website/forum address on it? I'm putting a link up on my blogs, but a physical card would be much better for "hey, man, if your'e into backpacking and all that... check this site out!"
Just a thought.
Maybe even toss some of the sponsors links on the back too :-p

better?
I think I REALLY like the ant one for the reverse, very cool! Do you guys see why Sis was chosen for this?
It means "I think, therefore I am an ant"
Or, with that ant image, it could mean "I sure could eat some formica!"
Here Teton - I was able to get both of your requests taken care of with a bolder font.
So here's the front:

Well that sells me. I'll contact my coin guy tomorrow morning and get the ball rolling to get these made. How does that sound? I was told that it's about 6 weeks from the time I call him with my final designs until they are shipped from the factory. So probably 7 weeks until we have them at our door. Maybe 8 with those pesky Christmas and New Years holidays getting in the way.
With that knowledge, do you want us to offer them for pre-order, or do you guys think we ought to just wait until we have them in our hands before you can buy them?
And make sure Jack mentions it in the housekeeping every day!
Awesome. The coin looks great.
Post a link when you get the pre-order going!
Thanks.
:)
You could have sold them for $10 each and it still would have been a great deal.
I would consider giving yourself a decent profit margin. Of course, I can say that having already ordered mine.
Well, my American-made challenge coins already have plans (even though they won't be here for a few weeks or more).
One of them is going to be a prize for the FTF (first to find) in a geocache I am going to make with a TSP theme.
The 2nd one is going to a buddy of mine.
The third one is mine! All mine!
So, what are you guys doing with YOUR challenge coins? Stocking stuffers? shotglass coasters?
Hey! Do we have TSP shot glasses?!
(Sorry. I must have had that planted in the back of my head when you said "Tiajauna".)
Just available for pre-order, mind you, darlin'. I won't have these in my little fingers until the beginning of February.I can wait until February to have the privilege of carrying one on me at all times. It will be a well designed constant reminder of the way of the modern survivalist. The other will probably be put up somewhere in my house for all to see. Who knows, it could start some interesting meaningful conversations. I could impress people with my extensive knowledge of Latin (which consists of two phrases now).
Very cool idea on the TSP Challenge Coin as well as an offer of kudos to all the hard work which went into it.
Challenge Coins have special meaning and a place in military history that all may not be aware of.

Alright guys, just got off the phone with the coin guy. He wants to make a few changes to the coins (VERY cool changes). Nothing major is changing, and nothing is being deleted. I'll show you guys the final artwork (from THEIR art department) at the end of next week, when I get it.
The coins, however, are ordered. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those of you who have already ordered coins, THANK YOU. Your pricing will not be changed by us. But from here on out - they're 9 bucks a coin.
It means "I think, therefore I am an ant"
My wife confirms your Latin is correct. :)
Hey, with the bigger font, could you get that apostrophe in "DON'T"? Because I know your supplier wants more last-minute changes. ;)
The Challenge Coins are SOLD OUT!
I think I'm going to lose my way over the price when the next batch comes out. Seems these won't quite cover the fees, and would never pay back the die costs.
Don't expect the price to go up MUCH. But it will go up next time around.
Are the "package" deals still good? What was it...six or more?
Woohoo! Yay! Hooray! Huzzah! Yippee!
Ahem, by the by I am heartily elated that the parcel has found its way to you Sister. ;)
Im not trying to be the thread wet blanket here seriously Im just curious but...well...what is the point of a challenge coin? Are they just to have and pull out of your pocket and look at? If thats the case why do some people say they are buying multiples. Is it just something to spend money on and support the show? Is it a way to spread awareness of the show? Because Im not paying 8 dollars or whatever per person I want to tell about the show. Why are they called "challenge" coins? If its just something shiny to look at and thats it thats ok Im just wondering. And finally I think Jack brought this up in an episode but I didnt listen to that one yet but why cant we get these things in silver?

3. Ya know...in case I go to IHOP for a TSP meetup and get challenged! I don't want to have to buy everyone's breakfast!
Yeah, yeah, pretty coins and all that, but everyone has missed the most important thing:
THE APOSTROPHE IS THERE!!!

(Waiting impatiently...) 8)
What are challenge coins (they're gorgeous by the way) and how can I get my hands on one/some? I saw that they are sold out in the store...
I buy them for several reasons:
1. They are a great token to share the word about Jack's show.
2. Challenge coins are a tradition steeped in history for many, many decades and there are tons of them out there which people often share and trade. I have several from geocaching. ( I was in the military but my group never developed a challenge coin.)

I'm not tryin' ta sell ya somethin ya don't want. I'm just answerin' the question.
;D
Just got mine and WOW!. Great job!!
My coins have arrived! Well,to all you out there debating on getting one, these coins are worth every penny!! :D
And, if you decide you DON'T want to get one, I'd like to meet you in person...because THEN you would owe me a beer!
;D

I thought the way that works is that you can only challenge those who own challenge coins.
Mine is pretty. I like it alot.
I thought you can challenge any member of your group. In this case, the group would be TSP listeners.
They either have one or they don't. If they don't, they buy the beer.
;)
;D
(I'm not actually planning to challenge anyone, so...)
"The coins of TSP do not fall lightly"...
When are they supposed to be shipping out? I ordered mine Feb.2nd. Im hesitant to post again in this thread because last time my post was deleted. :-\The coins being shipped out now are the ones that were part of the first order. If you just ordered then you are part of the second order and Sister Wolf hasnt received them yet. Once she gets them in then they will ship out.
Thank you, ncjeeper. Yeah, it says (all over the website where you ordered your coin, as well as here in this thread) that the challenge coins are a pre-order.
And just so it's clear, your post wasn't deleted for rudeness, or anything like that, spamity. You were notified of why it was deleted, and unless you planned to make the same mistake again, you had no reason to be hesitant to post in this thread.
Ah thanks ncjeeper and sister wolf for clearing that up. I thought the first order had already been completed but yall are still catching up I see. I wouldnt exactly call my other post a mistake because its not my fault. I just casually mentioned what I noticed. I hope yall fixed that.
"The coins of TSP do not fall lightly"...
No, it's not a precious metal coin. But yeah, it is really expensive to have them made. The issue is more the die (dye?) than the per coin price, though. As for the Silver Coins, we can have those done too. But the price would be a lot closer to $30 a piece.
How true, here is a picture of the TSP coin with a couple of silver rounds (from Tea Party Silver of course) and other challenge coins I have gotten over the years. The TSP coin "is jus' a lil' bigger"

Any news if the new batch of coins arrived?Yeah they arrived today. They're already on their way out (for anybody who has ordered them). :)
how do you usually ship, USPS or UPS? Will my patches be in the coin order too? ;)
coins and patches made it this morning, Thank You. :) The coins are very nice and solid, well made.
Your coin has arrived! Perhap we should get together over at Pic-a-lilly's, over in Shamong
I ordered three have two left (gave one to my daughter). Would there be any interest in a smaller challenge coin? The current one is great but it is a little large to carry in your pocket.
Jerry
Absolutely, Jerry! We're looking at doing a run of themed coins starting in about a month, and they will be "typical" coin sized. The originals will stay the same size they are now, and will go up in price when that happens.Themed challenge coins!! If you want, I have ba few theme ideas, that range from cool ton silly!! ;D
Hope that helps, buddy! :)
