Mainly read, surf teh intarwebz, reload ammo, and go to the range.

The good news is that the range I use is only 1.5 miles away.  The bad news is that getting there requires traversing about 3/4 mile of "minimum maintenance road".....

(plus, there's only 200 yards of "range")

Cool Oj. At least you have a range. I have to go hit wildlife areas that arent posted for my range.
That or I go to Grand Island. I do my cowboy shooting there, and am on the committee for that at Heartland Public Shooting Park. ITs a great range, but an hour away.

I'm in the process of moving to Nebraska...  Hoping to have a house sold in Colorado this summer and get relocated into your neck of the woods.

So what do you folks think do we want to have a meetup this summer???

Norfolk area now represented!  Hello to all!  My husband, two kids (17 yr old daughter and 11 yr old son), and I just returned from a 2-week vacation, and, as I won't be employed outside the home for the remainder of the summer (at least), I've decided to start participating on the SPF.  I've been an enthusiastic listener since October of 2008 and have enjoyed the forum from the sidelines since its beginning.

An observation about this great state we call home--Returning from Yellowstone via Hwy 20 across northern Nebraska really helped put in perspective (again) for me how much of "out-state" Nebraska there is and how for people living in (especially) extreme rural areas, preparedness is already a way of life--it has to be--no reasonable person is going to make the 100+ mile round-trip for a gallon of milk, and a winter storm could leave one stranded until spring thaw.  Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but for me it was a profound reminder of the differing mentalities in this country and how fortunate I feel to be living in a region where there are people who still live the good life without the conveniences that so many of us take for granted.

Born and Raised!

In Omaha.  I have been a podcast listener and member for years, but have not posted yet.

Also in the Omaha area.

OJ & RT:
Wow!  200 yards of range.  The closest range to me has about 50 feet and is indoors and loud - and it seems like most of the wildlife areas nearby are posted.

Well everything has taken far longer than we had hoped as far as getting moved to Nebraska.  We are still stuck half way between CO and NE(half our stuff in both places).  We have been looking for a homestead/hobby farm in the Omaha/Lincoln area.  Finding good usable farm land is TOUGH here unless your rich!  My wife's job is in Elkhorn.  It looks like we may have found a place near Waverly.  So we are now sorting out the details and trying to get a deal done on a place.

Has anyone given any thought to a meetup?  It would be great to put some faces to names and see what we can get going as far as community and skills training.  Are any of you members of the local CSA's or possibly run a CSA?

CSA? I dont think so...

Yes, land is very expensive out in that area. Its even pretty high here in the middle of the state. I imagine that the North central part might be a little cheaper, if you can buy some pasture from someone to homestead, but thats just speculation on my part.
I know of 1 area in Central Kansas that has houses and land pretty cheap comparatively, but there are also few jobs in that area, and no reason for people to move there unless they are retired or are moving back to family.

Good luck on getting into Neb.!!

I'm around Elkhorn, but technically in Omaha.  Moved out here for work.  Getting my preps in order now that I don't have the grandparent's farms to fall back on.  I'm also looking for land.  3 hour radius from Elkhorn.  Right now we're in an apartment.  We'll look for something a bit better when the house back home sells.  For now it's container gardens, and living on economical prep foods.  It's good to see a few like minded individuals around the area.  My overall goal is a permanent homestead away from all of the noise of the city.  I'm a software developer, and I typically pick up jobs that I can work remotely, so with a satellite internet connection I can range just about anywhere eventually.

Another Norfolk area member here.  I read alot, don't post much.  Been listener to the podcast since Jack was just starting the 200's, although I was away for a while.  Always working on being more prepared and always feel like I'm two years behind.

Me and the family live on a small piece of ground that I'm trying to make into a good homestead.  Had a small garden this year, want a bigger one next year.  Grew potatos for the first time, actually got a good harvest, next year I'm planting twice as much at least.

I'd like to hear from other people nearby.
