Need name for a skill

I want to add a skill to the list but am having trouble coming up with a one or two word name for it.

The idea is to learn or study subjects such as History, Economics, Philosophy and possibly Mathematics.

Under History could fall topics such as US History, Roman History, and Ottoman History as well as more recent civilizations that have fallen, reasons why, and how to avoid them

Under Philosophy would fall such things as Courage, Temperance, Prudence, and Justice and how they combine to help strive towards a Good Person and a Good Society

Under Economics could include our Monetary system, Capitalism versus Socialism versus Communism

If you come up with an idea for a skill name please feel free to add it in yourself, credit isn't important, but I believe having this knowledge of civilization is important to avoid another dark age if TSHTF.

I believe this is called sociology...or maybe anthropology.
What type of actual skill would be associated with this? Maybe im missing the point but I dont see this as being an actual skill...more like a particular field of study.

I think you could call this "scholarship", the skill of learning and being knowledgeable about all various "-ology"s (sociology, anthropology, etc.).

As to whether this is or is not a skill, I think you could argue that it is in fact a skill, although not a physical ones like we tend to think of when we hear the word "skill".

Like JonDavid alluded to, knowledge is a valuable commodity. The worst case scenario is that you just end up becoming a great conversationalist. The best case scenario is that you are able to use your understanding of these topics to teach others and guide the development of your community, town, nation, etc.

I would agree with "Scholarship".  What you describe is close to a Classical liberal education which I believe consists of Literature, History, Latin, Greek, Rhetoric, Philosophy and Mathematics.  Probably some for of Art and Music as well.  But I think all forms of academic learnign could be lumped under the general title of "Scholarship."

I read a book about John Adams and in the 1700s a boy that wanted to become educated would seek out a tutor, often a local attorney or clergy.  He would be given guidance, access to his library, and informal testing on these subjects.  They would have to demonstrate a certain level of mastery of every subject by panel interview and exams in order to gain entrance to a university such as Harvard, often around the age of 15!  Today we are idiots by comparison.

I really like the name Scholarship and thank you to everyone who helped with that.

As for whether this is a skill that belongs on 13skills, like other skills, it will be what you make it.

I think that would be a great skill. The school systems of today are less and less impressive as I see my kids going through the paces. It may be a dual purpose skill for me, Scholarship and Teaching others with the added benefit of bonding more with my kids.

Academia would be the word to describe that skill. You are improving your academic (adverb form of academia) knowledge..

This is a noble pursuit - But seems like skills are, well just plain old  'skills'
Maybe all the philosphical issues are in one pile, and how we react in a practical way in another pile.
You could call it "future studies" perhaps. Action without conviction has no meaning, guess you need both.
The Covey approach - knowledge, skill , desire - but he used to split them up too.
