  Why do I get the feeling that sb is a chemist?  The last two times he's made me laugh, it's been with chemical nonsense, or real life things written as chemical equations.  Too funny.

You flatter me, SW. The only chemistry I know I got through osmosis. Daughter-who-weaves-fences' husband works in solar cell r & d, and likes to chat with me. I have no freaking idea what a redox reaction is, so I just sit there and nod my head sagely, as befits my years, while he rambles on.....Actually, I graduated with a degree in Anthropology, two years before Lucy came out of the ground. Ancient history. Actually, ancient prehistory.

Archaeology is not all that its cracked up to be. Very little Indiana Jones, a lot of, "See that 5 gallon bucket of flint chips? Separate by type of flint, count them and try to figure out where the flint came from." After a couple of hours of that, your brain hurts.

MIL SPEC:
Military Specification; whenever the government / DOD orders something, it is manufactured to very detailed instructions covering design, materials, procedures, quality control, etc. For example, a knife made to MIL SPEC is the same whether Camillus makes it or Ontario makes it. On documentation and blueprints, the specification is referenced: MIL [alphanumeric code for that particular set of specs.] (see below)

I first came across this one reading about Vietnam-era pilots (i.e. it may be older).  In their usage is was Sh#t Hot - meaning "good" - 'He's a real sh#t hot stick' = he's an excellent pilot.

On that note, there are a couple of others, but they don't really play much into day-to-day life:

Charlie Mike - Continue Mission (can be a real command or update, but can also be the equivalent of "Drive on; it don't mean nothing") e.g. "Negative on your extraction request, GD. Charlie Mike."
Oscar Mike - On the Move (status update from an element that is moving out) "Roger, HQ, we're Oscar Mike."
