ATL Local Resource List
« on: August 25, 2009, 02:41:42 PM »
Since last Saturday's M&G, I have been trying to find enough time to sit down and start this thread. I wanted to throw out a local, ATL resource list for various things we need, use, or buy on a frequent basis.

Here is my contribution:

Gun Shops:
Adventure Outdoors - http://www.adbout.com
Wild West Traders (indoor range as well) - http://www.wwtguns.com/
SPD (no guns sales, but holster mecca) - http://www.spdist.com/
Nicks Guns (meh, IMHO - indoor range) - http://nicks-guns.com/
Pannels Firearms (indoor range) - http://www.pannellsfirearms.com/
Big Woods Goods (these guys are completely awesome, IMHO) - http://www.bigwoodsgoods.com/
Bargain Barn - http://www.bargainbarn.com/store/
The AR Bunker - http://www.thearbunker.com/

Surplus & Outfitters:
Brigade - http://www.brigadeqm.com/cgi-bin/tame.exe/store/index.tam
Army/Navy Discount - http://www.armynavydiscountcenter.com/
Hodge - http://www.hodgearmynavy.com/
REI - http://www.rei.com
The Outside World - http://www.theoutsideworld.net/outside/

Ammunition Manufacturers:
Georgia Arms (i have bought tens of thousands of rounds from these guys) - http://georgia-arms.com/index.aspx

Please add whatever info you have. This is just a start.

Thanks for the lead on Harbor Freight !

I went there Saturday afternoon and picked up a 45w solar panel kit, a solar trickle charger for the car plus a few other odds and ends.

Awesome thread HB! Thanks for starting it.

Nicks Guns (meh, IMHO - indoor range) - http://nicks-guns.com/

I haven't really bought anything from these guys other than range ammo and targets, but I did want to add that on Tuesdays they have a ladies shoot free night at the range. My wife and I go pretty often. Plus they reload so they always have ammo. It is overpriced for reloads though if you ask me.

Not too much to add, but I have a few

Firearms Ranges - WMA Shooting Range Information (these are great. I think most are free, but some charge $5 for parking or something like that, but the money goes to support the WMA land so, that is pretty cool) http://www.georgiawildlife.org/documentdetail.aspx?docid=442&pageid=2&category=maps

Bass Pro (I love getting lost in the one down by my folks. they usually have ammo. haven't been to the one in Lawrenceville though) http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPage?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=94&storeID=3&CFID=16277854&CFTOKEN=83374872

Dick's  (cheap hunting and camping gear in the off season, but sometimes over priced.  they do have a lot of stuff though including guns and ammo)  http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/corp/index.jsp?page=storeLocator&selectedIndexValue=&selectedStateIndexValue=&strLocator=&state=GA

Angel Food Ministries (awesome deal on food. there is a great thread on it already. basically $30 for $60 of food once a month. you can PM me if you have questions the thread or website don't answer)  http://www.angelfoodministries.com/
- Angel Food got shut down, turns out it was TOO good a deal - http://www.fbi.gov/atlanta/press-releases/2011/ceo-of-angel-food-ministries-and-others-indicted

I'll post more if I think of anything.  Great stuff so far. I had no idea most of these places even existed. very cool

Cherokee Loan and Pawn

Located in Alpharetta, Ga. Not a low rent pawn shop, but high end coin. Great place that always has pre 1964 coin for sale, Silver Eagles, and Gold Eagles/ Maple Leaves. Also lots of numismatics not that I really looked.

Cherokee Gun & Pawn in Canton. 678-880-7956

This is the sister store to 400 Jewelry & Pawn located in Cumming - which is bigger.

Does anyone have a specific gunsmith in the ATL or North GA area that they would recommend? I need a trigger lightened on SW9VE. i know pretty much any gunsmith could do it, or me for that matter, but it is for my wife and i want it done right the first time.  It'd be nice to develop a relationship with a good gunsmith too.  ;)

Hot damn Cohutt! That is an excellent link. Thank you so much. I'll give that a shot first. I got the gun to be the wife's EDC but the trigger is too heavy for her and she doesn't like carrying it.  Right now she is making do with a beretta .22  ::) but that will be her backup once I can get the trigger fixed on the SW9VE.

Stickied by Roswell

Also, I found a place I wanted to add. They are literally a store for survivalists.  They have two locations, one in Roswell and one in Marietta. I have only been to the Marietta one, but I was impressed. Also, that location is only two blocks from the Marietta Army/Navy Surplus store.

BTW, this is the only LDS cannery I have found in Georgia on the LDS website. If anyone has others, please feel free to list them or share your experience with this location.

I've been by the tru-prep store, in fact I stopped in again yesterday on my way back from a meeting in ATL.

What I liked about it is they have some higher end things that you can actually see and touch that otherwise might only be available via the inter-web.  Examples: All American,  Excalibur, Berkey.  All the food storage things too, Gamma Seal and reams of oxygen absorbers bundled in all quantities.

Previously I had purchased some smaller items plus an amazingly nice and robust Drago (MAxpedition type knock off) soft AR type rifle case.

(I didn't pick anything up yesterday; the $8 impulse purchase i thought I would make was deterred by the 5 or 6 already in line who would be checking out ahead of me....  the afternoon traffic witching hour was fast approaching and the weather still had freezing rain as a remote possibility, so I scrammed. )

I have purchased a couple of containers from this place and they are pretty reasonably priced. www.advancedrum.com
It is usually better to buy the newer containers than the used ones. I have used both and the chemical smell in the used ones are suspect to say the least. I am using some of the 40 gal. for catching rain water off of the gutters (for garden use) and I have regular 55 gal. for water storage.

I hope this helps.
